Castillo, 5-11, 195 pounds, was a four-time All-Lonestar Conference selection at West Texas A&M where he served as placekicker and punter. Castillo connected on 24 of 30 field goals and scored 149 points as a senior in 2013. He hit 62 of 79 (78.5 percent) field goal attempts in his career and owns school records for career made field goals and most field goals in a single season. Additionally, his 56 yard field goal against Abilene Christian in 2012 was the second longest in school history.
10/01/13 - SEPT 30 LONE STAR SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sergio Castillo, Jr., West Texas A&M University, SR, K, La Joya, Texas, La Joya HS,...Castillo, Jr., had a record-setting outing at Texas A&M-Kingsville as he became WT's all-time leading career scorer with a 41-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in the first half giving the Buffs a 31-7 lead. He entered the game needing just four points to tie DeWayne Miles' record of 332 career points and the field goal gave Castillo seven for the game at that point.
Castillo ended the game with 15 points and now has 343 during his career for a new Lone Star Conference record for kicking points, besting Abilene Christian's Matt Adams mark of 339. Castillo ranks seventh nationally in scoring this season at 13.8 points per game which leads the conference. He leads the nation in field goals per game at 2.5 and is 10 of 10 in field goals and 25 of 25 in extra-points for the season. - LSC football
