04/04/16 - TE Jeff Cumberland, who had his contract terminated by the Jets March 9, was signed by the Chargers Monday (April 4).
Cumberland, 28, played in 15 games for New York last year, starting five times. He made five receptions for 77 yards and no touchdowns.
Signed by the Jets as an undrafted rookie out of Illinois in 2010, Cumberland spent six seasons in New York. He was a regular starter for three seasons before being relegated to the bench last year.
In 65 career games (44 starts), Cumberland has 86 catches for 1,119 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Jets saved $1.9 million against the salary cap by releasing him.
Cumberland fills the vacancy created when the Chargers lost free agent tight end Ladarius Green to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

09/28/15 - TE Jeff Cumberland (concussion) was injured in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Eagles. Head coach Todd Bowles said Cumberland is in the league's concussion protocol. Bowles said the Jets would likely add a tight end if Cumberland is unable to play this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins in London. Cumberland's backup is Kellen Davis, a blocking specialist who hasn't caught a pass since 2013.

Coach Todd Bowles didn't provide an update on Cumberland after the game. Cumberland, who was held without a catch in the first two games of the season, had two receptions for 10 yards on Sunday.
