 Draft Scout A.J. Edds News
03/03/10 - A.J. Edds has done whatever has been asked of him, whether at Greenwood High School or the University of Iowa. He will continue to do so in the NFL. An outside linebacker prospect at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, Edds wants to make an immediate impact. Several draft publications have affixed him with a fourth-, fifth- or sixth-round grade in the April 22-24 draft. "There's no redshirt year in the NFL,'' Edds said. "They don't take projects. They take guys that they want to come and compete and play right away.'' Edds, a 6-4, 246-pounder, was a three-year starter at Iowa who finished with 226 tackles. As a senior, he had 78 tackles and five interceptions. "I pride myself on not being the weak link, not being the guy to give up plays,'' he said. At Greenwood, Edds did a lot of this, a lot of that. He was a three-time first-team All-State performer while seeing double duty at linebacker and tight end. He also did some long-snapping. "A lot guys get hung up on how much they weigh, how fast they are,'' Edds said. "At the end of the day, it's important that you're a coachable guy that can play and go out there and do what the coaches ask you to do and not just show off and talk about it. "You've got to be a guy who works your (butt) off.'' NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock believes there's a place in the NFL for Edds. "He's a draftable kid that because of his play on special teams should find a home in the NFL,'' he said. - Mike Chappell, The Indianapolis Star

02/17/10 - PRO POTENTIAL: LB A.J. Edds - Overshadowed by Angerer during his time at Iowa, Edds stood out during Senior Bowl practice. Edds was commended by scouts for jamming and re-routing Wisconsin TE Garrett Graham during 7-on-7 drills. But Edds stumbled when he had to turn and run, raising concerns about his coverage skills.
01/27/10 - Senior Bowl, Tuesday: There's nothing flashy about Iowa outside linebacker A.J. Edds, but he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Whether blowing up fullbacks or covering up receivers in the flat, he flashed the skills to be a Ben Leber-type coverage linebacker who will play for 10 years in the NFL. - Rob Rang and Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com
11/25/09 - 2009 ALL-BIG TEN CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (MEDIA): A.J. Edds has been selected Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the Big Ten media. - Iowa/Big Ten football
