 Draft Scout Stanley Havili News
08/24/10 - TOP RATED PAC-10 CONFERENCE NFL PROSPECTS: 4. FB Stanley Havili, Southern Cal, 6-1, 230, 4.64 An outstanding runner and receiver, Havili is the top-rated senior fullback in the country by NFLDraftScout.com. He's averaged 6.2 yards per rushing attempt over his career and is already the Trojans' all-time leading receiver among fullbacks with 84 grabs (for 894 yards and 10 scores). Scouts want to see Havili improve in his consistency and physicality as a lead blocker. Also, he'll certainly field questions from pro teams about the fight with teammate T.J. Bryant that led to Havili being suspended from the team. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
08/08/10 - Southern California fullback Stanley Havili was allowed to return to practice Saturday after a one-day ban for a pre-training camp fight with teammate T.J. Bryant. Just one day after telling Havili to stay away from Friday’s team activities, coach Lane Kiffin acquiesced to the pleas of Bryant and several Trojans to allow his senior team leader back into workouts. “The biggest thing was T.J. explaining to me that this thing was done eight days ago, that Stanley came to him and he apologized,” Kiffin said. “I think it speaks volumes for—outside of this decision that Stanley made, the mistake he made—who he is and what he’s been about. He made a mistake, and one I know he’s very remorseful for.” Havili and Bryant got into a fight last week during the final players-only conditioning drill before the start of camp. After an exchange of shoves, Havili apparently struck Bryant in the face. Bryant needed surgery to fix his broken left cheekbone, which will keep him out for at least three weeks. The injury will hinder Bryant’s competition for a starting job. But the junior doesn’t harbor a grudge toward Havili. When they spoke to reporters together after practice, Bryant said the players “were both at fault.” “Emotions just got the best of us, and those things happen,” Bryant said after watching practice while wearing his jersey and dark sunglasses. “We made up that day, and everything has been OK since then. We’re all emotional people, and sometimes emotions can get the best of us.” Kiffin says he doesn’t anticipate any further punishment for Havili, a three-year starter and the Trojans’ career leader in receptions for a fullback. - AP Sports
08/07/10 - Southern California fullback Stanley Havili has been banned from team activities as punishment for injuring teammate T.J. Bryant in a fight last week. Coach Lane Kiffin told Havili to stay home from meetings and practice Friday. The Trojans haven’t decided when the senior will be allowed to return, creating yet another distraction in USC’s never-ending cavalcade. “I continue to be very disappointed in Stanley’s decision-making,” Kiffin said. “We talk about protecting this team, and it’s just very disappointing from somebody I don’t know if I’ve ever been disappointed in. I’ve been so disappointed because it’s so unexpected.” Havili and Bryant scuffled a week ago when a pre-training camp conditioning drill erupted into a shoving match and apparently ended with Havili striking Bryant in the face. Although USC initially thought Bryant wasn’t seriously hurt, he underwent X-rays on his cheekbone Wednesday, leading to surgery Thursday that will keep him out for at least three weeks. Kiffin said Bryant “begged” him to allow Havili to keep practicing despite the altercation. The first-year coach still felt compelled to take a disciplinary stand—even against one of his team leaders. “We just don’t condone that,” Kiffin said. - AP Sports
12/27/09 - Fullback Stanley Havili picked a timely juncture to have a breakout game. The redshirt junior has been favorably appraised as an NFL prospect should he opt in January for the draft, but he continues to insist he'll return to USC, even if his Emerald Bowl work will only enhance his reputation. "I'm back," he said after the game, noting that he won't be swayed by Saturday. "Not at all. I'm coming back, for sure." His six catches (for 83 yards) were a career high, and the two touchdown receptions - on a 53-yard screen pass and a 5-yarder - were his first scores of the year. Havili averaged 13.4 yards on his 16 catches during the season. Utilized mainly as a blocker and receiver, he also averaged 7.2 yards per rush on his 19 carries. He missed two games with a shoulder injury. - Gregg Patton, The Press-Enterprise
12/26/09 - Matt Barkley threw touchdown passes to Stanley Havili on Southern California’s first two possessions and added a touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help the Trojans beat Boston College 24-13 in the Emerald Bowl on Saturday night. The victory was far from impressive but it did put a positive ending on a disappointing season for USC (9-4). The Trojans lost three of their final five regular-season games to fall out of the national rankings for the first time since Pete Carroll’s first season as coach in 2001. That left USC in an unfamiliar bowl setting after making it to the Bowl Championship Series the past seven years, including four straight Rose Bowl bids. But the Trojans made the most of it, handing Boston College (8-5) its second straight bowl loss after an eight-year bowl winning streak. - AP Sports
