 Draft Scout Javarris James News
05/06/10 - RB Javarris James, an undrafted rookie from Miami, signed with the Colts.
03/30/10 - PRO DAY RESULTS: Historically, players that run on FieldTurf post slightly faster times than those that work out on grass. Miami (Fla.) is the exception, however. The Hurricanes run on extremely short grass and there just isn’t much of a difference between their times and those of players that run on artificial surfaces. Keep that in mind when checking out some of the impressive results from Miami’s pro day. Twenty NFL teams were represented at the pro day that happened on March 26, and had some rainfall near the end. Ravens tight end coach Wade Harman ran the tight end position drills. RB Javarris James (6-foot 1/4, 215 pounds) ran a 4.59 and 4.63 in the 40-yard dash, had a 4.24-second short shuttle, a 7.07-second three-cone drill and stood on his vertical jump, broad jump and bench press numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. – Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/28/10 - Just ask the media who tried to talk to the tailback after Friday's University of Miami Pro Day. None of them caught up to him to do an interview. One reporter did say hello to James long after the event was over, but that was it. James, an Immokalee High School graduate, was one of 12 former Hurricanes who took part in the Pro Day. The others were offensive tackle Jason Fox; linebacker Darryl Sharpton; tight ends Jimmy Graham, Dedrick Epps and Tervaris Johnson; defensive linemen Eric Moncur and Joe Joseph; offensive lineman A.J. Trump; and defensive backs Sam Shields, Chavez Grant and Randy Phillips. James' elusiveness likely was due in part to expectations of being asked about one thing: his health. Injuries limited him to 21 games and eight starts over the past two seasons. James had neck, ankle and hamstring issues. While UM strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey pointed out that they weren't knee injuries, NFL scouts will still be leery going into the NFL Draft. "You can't make the club from the tub," said Gil Brandt, the former longtime general manager of the Dallas Cowboys who works as an analyst for NFL.com. "I would imagine it's hard to play hurt all the time, and seldom do people who are hurt become healthy in the NFL. It's also a tough year to be coming out as a running back." James recorded times of 4.55 and 4.56 seconds in the 40-yard dash, which were slightly higher than the 4.53 he ran at the NFL Combine. - Craig Handel, The Fort Myers News-Press
01/13/10 - Immokalee High School graduate and University of Miami running back Javarris James has been invited to play on the East team in the 85th annual East-West Shrine Game in Orlando on Jan. 23. It's the first year for the game in Orlando. UM center A.J. Trump also have been invited. James was Miami’s third-leading rusher in 2009 with 509 yards on 103 carries in 12 games. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry with six touchdowns. He set a new career-high with 150 yards on 15 carries with a season-long 50-yard rush in the win over Oklahoma. James also had 85 receiving yards on 13 catches. He finished his career sixth all-time in career rushing yards (2,179) and third all-time in career rushing attempts with 505. - Naples Daily News
12/29/09 - SCOUTING THE OFFENSE: Miami was one of the highest-scoring teams in the league in producing nearly 32 points a game during the season. The Hurricanes are deep at running back with Graig Cooper or Javarris James starting and Damien Berry coming off the bench as a change of pace and fresh legs in the second half, and they are exceptionally deep at wide receiver. Junior Leonard Hankerson is QB Jacory Harris' favorite target, but Harris has been known to spread the ball around to as many as 12 different receivers in a game.
