 Draft Scout News
04/08/10 - LB Aaron Maybin, the 11th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft who struggled through a disappointing rookie campaign, was granted a new lease on his football life when new coach Chan Gailey announced the team was moving to a 3-4 defense. The switch in schemes means Maybin moves from an undersized defensive end to a big outside linebacker. Now Maybin's got to prove he can excel at his new assignment. "I think the system's perfect for me," Maybin said during a break in offseason conditioning workouts. "I've been telling people for weeks. I couldn't be more excited about this season coming up." One knock on Maybin coming out of college was that he was a "tweener" -- too small for defensive end, too slow to play outside linebacker. He said he won't have a problem in coverage and shouldn't have to come off the field. "It's nothing to worry about," he said. "I don't think there are too many guys that are going to be running past me so I'll be all right." Maybin, who said his weight is in the mid-240s right now, would like to add some more bulk as long as it's good, functional weight. Keeping weight on has been his problem. "I feel fast enough right now where I can gain another five to 10 pounds and still be as fast as I am right now," he said. "Obviously that's going to be up to our coaches and our strength and conditioning coaches, but before OTAs and mini-camps and everything started up I just wanted to make sure that physically I was at a place where I could do whatever they wanted me to do."
04/01/10 - DE Aaron Maybin, who will be switching from an underweight defensive end to an outside linebacker in Buffalo's new 3-4, said the system is a "perfect fit for me." Maybin, who appeared to weigh around 230 late last season, said his weight is currently at 245 pounds but he would like to add 10 more and keep it on. "I think that if I gain another 10 pounds I think I'll still be around the same speed, around the same explosiveness," the former Penn State star said. "I just feel like whatever weight I feel comfortable with I'll keep on gaining and if I start to feel like it's uncomfortable at all then I'll slow down, but right now I feel fine so I don't think it's anything to worry about."
01/14/10 - DE Aaron Maybin, the 11th overall pick in the draft, averaged just 14 plays per game, finishing with 18 tackles and no sacks. The fear on draft day, that he's too undersized to play end in the NFL, played itself out.
12/10/09 - DE Aaron Maybin, the team's No. 1 draft pick and the 11th overall pick in last April's NFL draft, is on pace to end 2009 as one of the biggest rookie disappointments in club history. Maybin, who registered 12 sacks as a junior for Penn State last fall, continues to average just 10 to 15 plays per game for the Bills. He has been unable to unseat journeymen veterans Chris Kelsay and Ryan Denney on the left side of Buffalo's defensive line opposite Aaron Schobel, earning only backup repetitions. He has been credited with 11 tackles and no sacks but last Thursday's loss to the New York Jets in Toronto was one of his better games with three tackles. "I'm good," Maybin said when grilled by reporters about his talent and confidence. "I'm good enough to produce in this league."
11/30/09 - LB Aaron Maybin, who has been virtually invisible in his rookie season, was in on two tackles including a stop for a loss on a reverse.
