Draft Scout Colin McCarthy News
08/27/14 - LB Colin McCarthy (shoulder) was placed on reserve/injured by the Titans Tuesday (Aug. 26).
08/17/14 - LB Colin McCarthy underwent season-ending surgery on his left shoulder on Friday. He suffered the injury in the preseason opener last week.
08/15/14 - LB Colin McCarthy confirmed he was undergoing shoulder surgery Friday which could end his season. "Heading into surgery this morning. Want to thank everyone for (their) support and prayers during this time. It means a lot. Thank you," McCarthy said on Twitter.
McCarthy suffered the injury in Saturday's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy, a captain in 2012, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Titans in 2011. He started 19 of 36 games in his first three seasons.
08/10/14 - LB Colin McCarthy suffered a shoulder injury that could keep him out of action "for a while," according to coach Ken Whisenhunt. McCarthy, once elected the Titans defensive captain as a second-year player, is on the bubble to retain a spot on the Titans' 53-man roster and was playing with the third team Saturday night against Green Bay when he suffered the injury.
The exact timetable for McCarthy's return is not yet known, but with the Titans switching to a 3-4 scheme, McCarthy battling an injury and holding a $1.431 million base salary for the coming season, he could be behind the eight-ball in his quest to make the team.
10/17/13 - --LB Colin McCarthy has patiently waited his turn, after a hamstring injury cost him the chance to retain his starting middle linebacker position. McCarthy, who proved injury prone last year and in camp this year was relegated to special teams as free-agent import Moise Fokou took the starting job in the middle.
Now with Fokou nursing a knee injury that could keep him out for a couple of weeks, McCarthy gets another shot.
"I got thrown into the action a little bit last week at the WILL and the MIKE. I struggled a little bit. I'll admit that," McCarthy said. "But I'm excited to get back out there with the guys."
McCarthy, a former Titans defensive captain as recently as last year, said he views this as an opportunity to re-establish himself as a starter.
"It's an opportunity for me and I want to make the most of it. I want to play within the defense and just do my job and make plays," he said.
