Draft Scout Greg McElroy News
01/02/13 - QB Greg McElroy (concussion) was inactive for the Jets' season finale, one week after he was sacked 11 times in his lone start against the Chargers. McElroy said he began feeling concussion symptoms later in the week but didn't tell head coach Rex Ryan until he suffered a severe headache while lifting weights Dec. 27. While McElroy's performance against the Chargers (14-for-24, 185 yards, one interception) indicated his limitations, he will be back next year -- when he's due to make $555,000 in the third year of his four-year rookie deal -- and will likely compete for the starting job with Mark Sanchez and another player to be determined.
12/31/12 - QB Greg McElroy (concussion) was inactive Sunday, as expected, due to the symptoms he admitted to feeling Thursday. McElroy was hurt during his lone start of the season, a 27-17 loss to the Chargers Dec. 23 in which he was sacked a team record-tying 11 times. McElroy didn't tell coach Rex Ryan and the coaching staff that he wasn't feeling well until he suffered severe headaches while lifting weights Thursday morning.
12/28/12 - QB Greg McElroy (head, abdomen) will miss the season finale Sunday because of the concussion symptoms that he admitted to feeling Thursday -- four days after he began battling headaches following the 11-sack pounding he took in a 27-17 loss to the Chargers. McElroy didn't alert anyone with the Jets to his symptoms until he suffered a severe headache while lifting weights Thursday morning.
12/27/12 - New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced quarterback Mark Sanchez will start Sunday's season finale with Greg McElroy being evaluated for a concussion.
McElroy replaced Sanchez as the starter last week, but was sacked 11 times in a loss to the San Diego Chargers.
12/26/12 - QB Greg McElroy (abdomen) was a full participant in practice on Wednesday despite appearing on the injury report, three days after he tied a Jets record by absorbing 11 sacks in the 27-17 loss to the Chargers. Rex Ryan has already announced McElroy will start for the Jets against the Bills in the season finale Sunday, though, and McElroy said he expects to be fine for the game.
