Post-Draft Outlook:COULD SURPRISE: Linebacker Brandon Spikes: A 5.06-second 40-yard dash time hurt Spikes' stock, but not Bill Belichick. He sees Spikes as a big, productive force on the inside who moves as well between the tackles as any linebacker he's seen in recent years.
A closer look at the Patriots' picks: Round 2/62 -- Brandon Spikes, ILB, 6-3, 249, Florida, His 40 time hurt his draft stock, but Spikes' career at Florida showed he could flat out play. He was the captain of the defense, a force in the middle and a playmaker for the Gators. He'll play early on. - by The Sports Xchange

Draft Scout Brandon Spikes News
06/08/15 - LB Brandon Spikes had his contract terminated by the Patriots Monday (June 8), one day after a car registered to him was found abandoned with front-end damage.
State police are investigating whether the damaged 2011 Mercedes Maybach found abandoned early Sunday morning in the median strip of Interstate 495 in Foxborough, Mass., is linked to a reported hit-and-run accident that sent three people to the hospital.
Police said they were alerted around 3:20 a.m. by a representative of the OnStar on-board navigation system that the driver reported hitting a deer.
When police arrived at the car, the driver was not present. Police said they did not find a deer in the area.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio said that a short time later police responded to a report of a 2009 Nissan Murano, also on I-495 in the same area whose occupants reported that they had been rear-ended by another vehicle they did not see.
All three occupants of that vehicle -- a 51-year-old man, a 32-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy, all of Billerica, Mass. -- were transported to the hospital for examination and treatment, according to police. Procopio said the injuries to the three occupants of the Murano were minor in nature.
"The investigation will seek to determine whether there is any connection between the reported incidents," Procopio said. "No connection has yet been definitively established."
According to reports, state troopers have reached out to Spikes. No charges have been filed yet.
The Patriots re-signed Spikes, 27, to a one-year deal last month. He is a veteran of five NFL seasons with New England (2010-13) and the Buffalo Bills (2014).
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Spikes originally entered the NFL as a second-round draft pick (62nd overall) by the Patriots out of Florida in 2010.
Spikes signed with the Bills as an unrestricted free agent on March 15, 2014 and re-signed with the Patriots on May 18.
Spikes has played in 66 career
05/19/15 - LB Brandon Spikes, who wasn't tendered as a UFA by the Bills Jets on May 12, was signed by the Patriots on May 13.
Spikes played for the Patriots from 2010 to 2013 before signing a one-year deal with the Bills in 2014.
After signing with the Bills in 2014, Spikes tweeted some shots at the Patriots, including "4 years a slave" to refer to his first four seasons in the NFL with New England.
The 27-year-old Spikes visited with the Patriots earlier this month. He made 92 and 86 tackles in 2012 and 2013, respectively, but only managed a career-low 54 tackles last year in Buffalo.
The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Spikes has played 67 career regular-season games, making 340 tackles along with two sacks and two interceptions.
03/04/15 - LB Brandon Spikes simply doesn't fit into Rex Ryan's defense, and he was told by the team that it would be wise to seek a new team in free agency. Spikes is a stud against the run, but he can't stay on the field on passing downs because he's a liability in coverage. He played only 46 percent of the defensive snaps last season for that reason.
10/13/14 - LB Brandon Spikes played against his former team for the first time and was in on eight tackles.
09/17/14 - MLB Brandon Spikes played only 19 percent of the defensive snaps against Miami because the Bills were so frequently in nickel or dime defense.
