Draft Scout Cedric Thornton News
09/03/17 - DT Cedric Thornton was cut by The Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN. Thornton signed a four-year, $17 million deal that included $9 million guaranteed before the 2016 season, but he did not become a starter and was slowed in training camp by a hamstring strain. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Thornton, 29, played in 13 games for the Cowboys in 2016 and made 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
08/21/17 - DT Cedric Thornton has missed the first two preseason games because of a hamstring injury and remains sidelined.
12/22/16 - DT Cedric Thornton remains sidelined with a high ankle sprain and unlikely to play for the second straight week.
10/27/16 - DE Cedric Thornton is playing more and making more plays the past few weeks than he did early in the season. Thornton played 31 plays against the Bengals and 30 plays against the Packers the past two games after recording just 18 plays against the 49ers three games ago. It's all about Thornton being more comfortable in his role with the Cowboys and the transition from the two-gap scheme in Philadelphia last year to the one-gap concept in Dallas. Thornton is also playing the nose as well as the 3-tech tackle spot in Dallas after initially signing to replace Nick Hayden at nose tackle. Terrell McClain has come on so well at nose that Thornton has had to adjust. "Everybody stuck with me," Thornton said. "They knew I was going through a transition. They tell me every week it's going to get better. It gets better mentally before it gets better physically. I'm doing everything I need to do. I'm in my gap when I need to be there. I'm making plays when I need to. I'm doing the things on and off the field I need to do to be effective."
08/09/16 - DT Cedric Thornton returned to practice after missing the last three days with a virus. He lost a lot of weight and hopes to gain a few pounds back before Saturday's preseason opener.
