 Draft Scout Chase Holbrook News
04/05/09 - Chase Holbrook was the "all-time quarterback" whenever the neighborhood kids got together for a pickup game. So when it came time to pick a college after his Hurst L.D. Bell career ended, Holbrook went with the one school that offered him a chance to remain at quarterback. "I got offered [a lot of places] as a tight end," Holbrook said in a telephone interview. "My one offer as a quarterback was Southeastern Louisiana, which is where I started. I feel lucky to get the opportunity that I did." After completing 69.3 percent of his passes for 11,846 yards and 85 touchdowns at New Mexico State, where he followed coach Hal Mumme after one season in Hammond, La., Holbrook is hoping things work out as well in the NFL. Scouts question his arm strength and mobility, but then, college recruiting coordinators had the same doubts. Holbrook is among the local products the Cowboys have invited to Valley Ranch for Dallas Day on April 13. Colorado receiver Pat Williams and Oklahoma safety Lendy Holmes are among others expected. All of them share the same dream. "From when I can remember, this is what I hoped to do," said Holbrook, who is working out in Bedford. "I can see it on the horizon." - Charean Williams, Fort Worth Star Telegram
03/29/09 - New Mexico State Pro day: It was held on March 11, with 12 players working out for representatives from five NFL teams. QB Chase Holbrook (6-4 5/8, 244 pounds) stood on his numbers from the combine. The players ran outdoors on FieldTurf. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
11/24/08 - GAME BALL GOES TO: QB Chase Holbrook completed 45 of 60 passes vs. Louisiana Tech for 486 yards and four touchdowns in his final home game. The senior surpassed 3,000 yards passing on the season, and with 250 yards passing next week can go over 12,000 passing yards for his career.
11/21/08 - For the 2008 Aggies, Saturday's game against Louisiana Tech is relatively meaningless. Win or lose, New Mexico State still falls short of its goal of playing in a bowl game. But for Hal Mumme, this game could mean his job. After what has been a disappointing season, Mumme has found himself on the proverbial hot seat. Saturday's home game -- the last of the season for New Mexico State -- may be the last chance Mumme has to prove to Aggie nation that the program is still headed in the right direction. The Bulldogs couldn't present Mumme with a more formidable WAC opponent. Louisiana Tech sits with the second-best conference record and on the verge of a bowl berth. The Bulldogs' defense -- which excels at stopping the pass by allowing a meager 149.4 yards -- will look to stop the erratic Aggies' passing attack. Quarterback Chase Holbrook, who was considered one of the best senior signal callers in the country, will look to improve his already ailing draft stock. State is coming off another poor offensive performance. After scoring 17 first-half points, the Aggies failed to score in the second half. The Aggies are rushing for 62.8 yards per game and are coming off a performance in which they netted minus-9 yards on the ground.
11/21/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: QB Chase Holbrook -- The senior has had a disappointing season and will look to solidify his legacy in his last game in Las Cruces. QUOTE TO NOTE: "We have some great seniors, guys like Chase Holbrook, Derrick Richardson, Chris Williams and AJ Harris and they have really fought for this team all along," Mumme said. "And the team is not ready to throw in the towel by any means. We just need to keep battling. Good things can't happen if you quit."
