Post-Draft Outlook:
A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 5/164 -- Thomas Morstead, P, 6-4, 225, Southern Methodist...Saints coaches and scouts thought Morstead had the strongest leg of all the punters in this year's draft, even though he averaged a career-low 41.8 gross yards as a senior. But only 19 of his punts were returned as SMU ranked fourth in the nation in net average at 37.2 yards. - by The Sports Xchange

 Draft Scout Thomas Morstead News
01/11/13 - P Thomas Morstead was a Pro Bowl pick after setting a club record with a 50.1-yard gross average -- becoming one of only seven players in NFL history to average more than 50 yards in a season. He also was on track to set the league mark for net punting average, but fell a little short with a solid 43.2 average. He had 45 touchbacks on kickoffs.
07/31/12 - P Thomas Morstead admitted to being nervous during practice on Friday (July 27) after agreeing late Thursday night to a six-year, $21.9 million contract extension. While Morstead was obviously happy with the contract that will run through the 2018 season, he said he couldn't help but think about what could go wrong during practice. "I thought if I had a bad practice, they might take (the offer) back," said Morstead, who last season set a club record with a 48.3-yard gross average and led the league with 68 kickoffs for touchbacks.
