Post-Draft Outlook:
A closer look at the Saints' picks: Round 5/164 -- Thomas Morstead, P, 6-4, 225, Southern Methodist...Saints coaches and scouts thought Morstead had the strongest leg of all the punters in this year's draft, even though he averaged a career-low 41.8 gross yards as a senior. But only 19 of his punts were returned as SMU ranked fourth in the nation in net average at 37.2 yards. - by The Sports Xchange

 Draft Scout Thomas Morstead News
01/18/18 - P Thomas Morstead is willing to pay it forward after Minnesota Vikings fans donated reportedly more than $150,000 to the charity of the New Orleans Saints punter. The Vikings fans' generosity comes on the heels of Morstead playing through the pain of torn cartilage in his ribs sustained on the first series of Sunday's NFC divisional-round game. The 31-year-old even came out for the final play -- an extra-point attempt -- after Stefon Diggs reeled in a 61-yard touchdown pass as time expired to give Minnesota a 29-24 victory. Vikings fans donated to Morstead's "What You Give Will Grow" charity for children battling cancer, prompting the punter to promise to return to the state to personally deliver a check to Minnesota's Child Life Program. "I'm just totally humbled by this," Morstead in a video on Twitter. "I might be forced to root for you guys all the way through the Super Bowl now. Just totally blown away. Thank you very much."
01/15/18 - P Thomas Morstead continued to punt and hold for placements after injuring his ribs making a tackle on a punt return early in the first quarter. One report said Morstead suffered broken ribs and he doubled over after each subsequent punt. Still, he averaged 48 yards and held for Wil Lutz's 43-yard field goal in the final minute.
01/08/18 - P Thomas Morstead averaged 43.0 yards on four punts, one of which was downed inside the 20.
01/01/18 - P Thomas Morstead had three of his four punts downed inside the 20.
12/26/17 - P Thomas Morstead's six punts yielded a gross average of 44.7 and a net average of 39.8 with one punt being downed inside the 20 against Atlanta.
