 Draft Scout Kyle Wilson News
11/20/09 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: The Broncos have shown some vulnerability the past two weeks, allowing 53 points to opposing offenses. That's the same number they allowed in the previous four games. Most concerning, they weren't sound against the run against Idaho. Utah State and Nevada, the next two opponents, are run-oriented teams. Still, the Broncos are clearly the best defensive team in the WAC and they have forced 27 turnovers this season. PLAYERS TO WATCH: CB Kyle Wilson was interception-less three weeks ago. Now he has one in each of the past three games including two for touchdowns.
11/06/09 - SCOUTING THE DEFENSE: The Broncos have shut out seven of eight opponents in the first quarter and have allowed just one touchdown in each of the past two games. The group ranks between 10th and 12th in the nation in total defense, scoring defense, rush defense and pass-efficiency defense. The Broncos allow 274.3 yards and 13.6 points per game. Only one opponent has generated more than 307 yards. PLAYERS TO WATCH: CB Kyle Wilson, the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week grabbed his first interception of the season last week and returned it for a touchdown. Opponents have been avoiding him most of the year.
11/04/09 - 2009 JIM THORPE AWARD SEMIFINALIST: Kyle Wilson, All-American cornerback at Boise State University, has been named a semi-finalist for the 2009 Jim Thorpe Award which is presented each season to the nation's best college defensive back. A senior from Piscataway, New Jersey, Wilson joins a group of 12 semi-finalists. The list will be narrowed on Nov. 23 (Monday) to three finalists who will then be invited to the nationally telecast Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 10 (Thursday). The winner will be announced on the show with the official presentation at a formal banquet in Oklahoma City on Feb. 9 (Tuesday). Wilson was selected to the 2009 Playboy preseason All-America team and last month was named a midseason All-American by Sporting News Magazine. Wilson has also been named a quarter-finalist for the Lott Trophy which recognizes student-athletes for performance, academics and community service. Last week in Boise State's 45-7 victory over San Jose State, Wilson led the Bronco defense unit with five tackles, one tackle for loss and picked off a Spartan pass which he returned 27 yards for his first career touchdown from an interception. For his effort, Wilson was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week. Joining Wilson on the list of semi-finalists are Javier Arenas of Alabama; Eric Berry of Tennessee; Barry Church of Toledo; Perrish Cox of Oklahoma State; Joe Haden of Florida; Brandon Harris of Miami (Fla.); Taylor Mays of USC; Tyler Sash of Iowa; Darrell Stuckey of Kansas; Earl Thomas of Texas; and Alterraun Verner of UCLA. - Boise State football
11/02/09 - WAC WEEK 9 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson, a senior from Piscataway, N.J. (Piscataway HS), recorded his first interception return for a touchdown when he picked off a pass and returned it 27 yards for the score in the Broncos' 45-7 win over San Jose State. He also had five tackles (4 solo), including one for a loss of two yards on a first down play that helped force a punt on the series of downs early in the game. Also nominated on defense: junior defensive end Chris Carter, Fresno State; junior safety Shiloh Keo, Idaho; and junior cornerback Doyle Miller, Nevada. - WAC football
10/14/09 - Boise State senior cornerback Kyle Wilson has accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl, an all-star game for NFL prospects. The game is Jan. 30 in Mobile, Ala. He is the first Bronco invited since offensive tackle Daryn Colledge played in the 2006 game. - Chadd Cripe, The Idaho Statesman
