Draft Scout *Akeem Ayers News
03/12/15 - LB Akeem Ayers left the Patriots for the Rams Thursday (March 12), agreeing to terms on a two-year, $6 million contract that includes $3 million guaranteed.
Ayers joined the New England Patriots in October after he was traded along with a seventh-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a sixth-round selection.
Ayers played in nine games and started four for the Patriots. He totaled 20 tackles, four sacks and one interception for New England during its run to the Super Bowl.
In four NFL seasons after being drafted in the second round by the Titans in 2011, Ayers has 252 tackles, 13 sacks, three interceptions and one fumble recovery in 59 games, including 47 starts.
03/08/15 - LB Akeem Ayers, unrestricted FA update, revitalized his career after the midseason trade from the Titans. He finished with four sacks and an interception in nine games, which he'll likely turn into greater money and opportunities in free agency elsewhere.
01/29/15 - LB Akeem Ayers (knee) was added to the injury report Thursday and was limited in practice.
10/27/14 - LB Akeem Ayers suited up and played a rotational role in primarily sub situations on defense for the Patriots just five days after joining the team in a trade from the Titans. The former Tennessee second-round pick notched his first sack in a New England uniform and finished with five tackles to help out a Patriots front seven that's learning to play without Jerod Mayo (IR, knee) as well as Chandler Jones (hip).
10/22/14 - LB Akeem Ayers was traded Oct. 22 to the Patriots along with a seventh-round pick from the Tennessee Titans, with New England sending a sixth-round pick to Tennessee. Ayers is a former second-round pick in 2011 who fell out of favor under Ken Whisenhunt and didn't suit the team's switch to the 3-4 this fall.
He should compete for playing time almost immediately in New England for a front seven that's dealing with injuries to a number of key contributors.
