 Draft Scout *Akeem Ayers News
09/07/16 - OLB Akeem Ayers signed with the Colts on Tuesday. Ayers has never played in a 3-4 defensive scheme. He is, however, expected to see some work in Sunday's regular season opener with Detroit. A former starter with the Rams, he has also seen playing time with New England and Tennessee. Ayers was a second round pick by the Titans in 2011.
09/04/16 - LB Akeem Ayers, who spent training camp with the starting unit, was a surprise cut when the Rams got to the 53-man roster. The Rams will turn to youngsters to fill the hole, but it appears Nicholas Grigsby, a rookie undrafted free agent out of Pitt, has the inside track on starting next to Mark Barron and Alec Ogletree during the Sept. 12 season opener at San Francisco. "All of the decisions that you make are difficult, and some of the decisions that you make are not permanent," coach Jeff Fisher said. "That's all I can say. Akeem has played well for us. We've enjoyed having him. But, we're kind of hopeful that this is not the end between us and Akeem -- I'll just say that."
09/02/16 - OLB Akeem Ayers and the rest of the Rams' defense is bracing as the team's backbone. Sans an explosive offense, the defense will assume a major share of responsibility in the Rams success. And that begins with stopping the run. "I think that's the first thing you need to do as a defense," Ayers said. "If you can't stop the run, it's going to be a long season for you. We understand where (Fisher) is coming from when he puts an emphasis on stopping the run."
12/27/15 - LB Akeem Ayers scored his first career touchdown on a 45-yard fumble return in the first quarter Sunday. Ayers scooped up a fumbled by Seattle FB Will Tukuafu and ran 45 yards to give St. Louis a 10-0 lead 8 1/2 minutes into the game. Ayers added a huge recovery at the St. Louis 8-yard line with less than three minutes left to clinch the win.
11/13/15 - LB Akeem Ayers (illness), who did not practice Wednesday, would have been full participation Thursday if the Rams had practiced.
