Draft Scout *Jimmy Clausen News
01/04/16 - QB Jimmy Clausen, who started two games, was inactive for the second consecutive week. His future with the team remains uncertain. He threw for 555 yards with two touchdowns with three interceptions in two losses. Clausen might attract interest from another team.
12/21/15 - QB Jimmy Clausen set single-game career-highs for attempts (45), completions (26) and passing yards (281) against the Chiefs. He also tied a career-high with two touchdown passes. In the process, Clausen made a strong case to remain the starter over the final two games.
"That's not up to me," Clausen said about earning the starting role. "That's up to the coaches. The only thing I can do is go out, like I did today, and just every single play, play like it's my last play. Coaches are going to make those decisions. That's not for me to make."
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Clausen was one of the few bright spots for the team.
"I thought Jimmy played really well," Harbaugh said. "Give him credit. I could sit up here, I could pat a lot of guys on the back - Kamar (Aiken) would be a guy - and you're not going to want to hear that, because we didn't play winning football. I don't want to sound like I'm pleased with a loss like that. The fact of the matter is a lot of guys played well, and Jimmy Clausen is one of them."
11/25/15 - QB Jimmy Clausen was claimed off waivers by the Ravens from the Bears Tuesday (Nov. 24), reuniting the quarterback with offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. Clausen played for Trestman, who was head coach of the Chicago Bears, last season.
A six-year NFL veteran, Clausen was waived by Chicago on Monday (Nov. 23) after seeing action in two games (one start) this season. The Bears opted to elevate David Fales from the practice squad rather than keep Clausen.
In two games this season, Clausen completed 23 of 40 passes for 184 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Clausen started one game in 2014 under Trestman and completed 23 of 39 passes for 181 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Originally a second-round draft choice by the Carolina Panthers in 2010, Clausen has played in 19 career games (12 starts), completing 206 of 387 attempts for 1,965 yards, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The 6-2, 210-pounder out of Notre Dame started a career-high 10 games as a rookie in 2010.
11/24/15 - QB Jimmy Clausen was placed on waivers by the Bears Monday (Nov. 23).
11/23/15 - QB Jimmy Clausen, the backup for the Bears, was waived Monday.
Clausen played in two games this season after starter Jay Cutler injured his hamstring in Week 2, completing 23 of 40 pass attempts for 184 yards and one interception. The 28-year-old Clausen went 9 of 17 for 63 yards in his lone start of the year at Seattle on Sept. 27, a 26-0 loss to the Seahawks.
Clausen, a 2010 second-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers, has passed for 1,967 yards and five touchdowns with 11 interceptions in his career. He has an all-time record of 1-11 as a starter.
