Draft Scout Mason Foster News
07/30/14 - LB Mason Foster, who played at around 242 pounds last year, experienced woes in coverage and had more straight-line speed than lateral quickness dropped seven pounds since minicamp by giving up fried food and eating his vegetables. Earlier in his career, he would come off the field on third down and then-rookie Lavonte David called the defensive signals.
"I'm losing a lot of body fat and it's helped me," Foster said. "I tried to eat a lot of vegetables. I don't really like vegetables, but I've been doing well. I'm eating a lot of vegetables, eating turkey, eating turkey burgers. It was tough at first but got used to it and it's paid off. I guess I've lost like seven pounds. It's really about being in better shape. … Now I like green beans, corn. My mom makes me broccoli. She's been helping me out. It's been going good. I feel a lot quicker, a lot lighter on my feet."
12/11/13 - LB Mason Foster has two interceptions returned for touchdowns this season. With one more pick-six he would tie Derrick Brooks and Lonnie Marts for the most in club history during a season.
11/27/13 - LB Mason Foster returned to practice Wednesday after missing Sunday's game with a concussion he received vs. Atlanta. Foster is expected to play against the Panthers.
11/22/13 - LB Mason Foster said he hasn't missed a football game in his career, dating back to high school. But Foster, 24, has been ruled out of Sunday's game against Detroit due to a concussion.
11/21/13 - --LB Mason Foster said he hasn't missed a football game in his career, dating back to high school.
And Foster, 24, is hoping that streak stays alive Sunday against the Lions, though he's unsure as he's dealing with a concussion suffered last week. Foster did not practice Thursday for the second straight day, with coach Greg Schiano saying he's "cautiously optimistic" he'll be ready.
"You never know, I think I'm close," Foster said. "But you've got to be safe. I hate missing anything, hate missing reps. So it's tough. At the same time I've got to look out for my future and make sure I'm able to play down the road and not get seriously hurt."
Foster, a third-year pro, has been playing well, with 40 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown last week. While Foster is still undergoing tests, and hasn't been cleared for practice, he's been participating in meetings and film study, trying to stay ready.
"I'm preparing like I'm going to play," Foster said. "Hopefully I'll get the go-ahead."
