 Draft Scout Nic Grigsby News
12/30/09 - HOLIDAY BOWL, MATCHUP TO WATCH: Arizona RB Nic Grigsby vs. Nebraska's defensive speed -- Grigsby, who missed most of the Pac-10 season because of a recurring shoulder injury, is expected to play in the Holiday Bowl. He is UA's best -- perhaps only -- hope for an outside running game, which means the Wildcats can try to avoid DT Ndamukong Suh. Then, the question becomes whether or not Grigsby can turn the corner against a speedy Blackshirts defense.
10/26/09 - Offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes was joking when he said, "open tryouts for running backs," after the UCLA game, but the seriousness of a couple of injuries might not be a laughing matter. Starter Nic Grigsby, who has been playing through a bruised right shoulder since early in the Oregon State on Sept. 26, left Saturday's game in the first half after taking a big hit on the shoulder. Third-stringer Greg Nwoko, who has been seeing a lot of action because of Grigsby's shoulder and Keola Antolin's sprained ankle, left the game in the third quarter with an injury to his left shoulder. The arm was in a sling after the game. Coach Mike Stoops said both players had sprains to the AC joint, although the severity of the injuries was not immediately known. The coaches were trying to rest Antolin against UCLA, but he entered the game in the second half and rushed 16 times for 77 yards. Fourth-stringer Nick Booth got five carries for 14 yards, including a 6-yard touchdown run. If Grigsby and Nwoko are out for an extended period, Arizona might have to look at bringing a true freshman - either Kylan Butler or Daniel Jenkins - out of his redshirt season.
10/17/09 - Nic Grigsby raced 57 yards for a touchdown with 2:57 to go, and Arizona rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat Stanford 43-38 on Saturday night. The Wildcats ended a wild night in the desert by repelling the Cardinal on fourth-and-10 at Arizona’s 17, with cornerback Trevin Wade batting down a pass intended for Chris Owusu in the end zone. Nick Foles threw for 415 yards and three touchdowns as the Wildcats (4-2, 2-1 Pac-10) overcame a big night by the Stanford offense. Cardinal tailback Toby Gerhart ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and Andrew Luck threw for 423 yards and three scores. He also had an interception. The Cardinal (4-3, 3-2) had their four-game winning streak in Tucson snapped. The game turned when Stanford, leading 38-36, went for it on fourth-and-1 at Arizona’s 8 with 5:27 to go. The natural call would have been a handoff to the hard-charging Gerhart, but he limped off before the play. Luck found Owusu in the flat, but Owusu dropped the ball. Given new life, the Wildcats rallied on Grigsby’s dramatic run on third-and-17 from the Arizona 43-yard line. - AP Sports
10/10/09 - Starting RB Nic Grigsby, who left the Oregon State game on Sept. 26 after one carry because of a shoulder injury, returned to practice Monday. He has a good chance of being ready to play at Washington on Saturday. If not, UA should be fine in the backfield with Keola Antolin and Greg Nwoko.
10/10/09 - STAR WATCH: RB Nic Grigsby - The junior got off to a roaring start, including 207 yards against Northern Arizona, and was second nationally in rushing through two games. He has runs of 25, 30, 58 and 94 yards this season, but his per-game average took a hit when he had to leave the Oregon State game after carrying one time for 7 yards. He should be good to go when the Cats resume against Washington on Oct. 10, but the Wildcats don't need him to be a workhorse because backups Keola Antolin and Greg Nwoko each have done good things, too.
