03/06/12 - Former UAB offensive tackle Matt McCants wasn't looking to erase what happened at the NFL Combine. He was looking to supplement what he did in late February in Indianapolis when he attended UAB's Pro Day on Monday at Legion Field. Improving his time in the 40-yard dash was one of McCants' main objectives. McCants' best time at Legion Field was 5.45 seconds, which wasn't a big improvement from the 5.52 he ran at the combine. But it was enough to satisfy McCants. "I think I showed the scouts that I have some ability, some athleticism," McCants said. The 6-foot-5, 308-pound player was one of about 20 former college players looking to impress scouts from eight NFL teams on Monday. Thirteen of the players were from UAB while Jacksonville State, Miles College and Tuskegee were also represented. Scouts from the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans attended the workout. - Steve Irvine, The Birmingham News
