Draft Scout Shea McClellin News
09/19/14 - LB Shea McClellin missed Friday's work with a hand injury and practiced only on a limited basis on Thursday. Trestman said McClellin's injury occurred in practice and not in the 49ers game. If McClellin is unable to play, Jonathan Bostic would fill in. Bostic has become well-versed in all three linebacker positions. Bostic's problem has been overrunning his assignment in run fits, and it would be an area of concern against the Jets' powerful running attack and read-option approach.
09/01/14 - LB Shea McClellin apparently is ready to go as the starting strong side linebacker, for better or worst. His abilities there haven't been apparent, but Trestman said it's not easy to judge his progress from end to linebacker based on preseason games.
"You face so much three-wideouts scenarios that you don't get as much work in base personnel as you'd like, particularly to give Shea the work that he needs," Trestman said. "But he's gotten a lot. He's gotten a bunch in practice. We saw him continually improve, get a little more comfort in playing a brand-new position for him. As long as we continue to see the movement in the right direction, I think we should feel good about it and at this point we are."
09/01/14 - LB Shea McClellin apparently is ready to go as the starting strong side linebacker, for better or worst. His abilities there haven't been apparent, but coach Mark Trestman said it's not easy to judge his progress from end to linebacker based on preseason games.
08/12/14 - LB Shea McClellin's conversion to strong-side linebacker from defensive end is not a smashing success. Still, coaches seem to find the positives. "He looks very instinctive in practice and we saw him make sudden movements and quick decisions in the game," defensive coordinator Mel Tucker said. "I think he's already doing that to a certain extent and we just have to work to get better."
08/05/14 - LB Shea McClellin continues to draw praise from coaches for his conversion from defensive end, although his impact hasn't been obvious. McClellin is lining up at backup middle linebacker in the nickel or strong side starter.
