 Draft Scout Shea McClellin News
08/12/14 - LB Shea McClellin's conversion to strong-side linebacker from defensive end is not a smashing success. Still, coaches seem to find the positives. "He looks very instinctive in practice and we saw him make sudden movements and quick decisions in the game," defensive coordinator Mel Tucker said. "I think he's already doing that to a certain extent and we just have to work to get better."
08/05/14 - LB Shea McClellin continues to draw praise from coaches for his conversion from defensive end, although his impact hasn't been obvious. McClellin is lining up at backup middle linebacker in the nickel or strong side starter.
06/01/14 - LB Shea McClellin quickly got into his switch from defensive end by playing two different spots. Now wearing jersey No. 50 after being 99 for two years, McClellin played strong-side linebacker and also the Mike spot. He was involved with the second team in the middle, and played second-team nickel coverage linebacker. "It's different going from Sam to Mike but I enjoy linebacker, period, so whatever they want me to do," he said. McClellin was also making the huddle calls when playing the Mike spot despite his lack of NFL experience at the spot. McClellin was 258 pounds last year and isn't over the weight loss that has taken him down to 250. He said his ideal playing weight will be 245-250.
11/22/13 - DE Shea McClellin (hamstring) was full in practice Friday and is listed as probable to play against St. Louis.
11/20/13 - DE Shea McClellin (hamstring) went through a full practice Wednesday and is expected to return to the lineup for the first time since his three sacks against Green Bay Nov. 4. McClellin had struggled early in his career, so to be out two games with a pulled hamstring after a break-through effort against Green Bay with three sacks was a difficult situation. "It was pretty disappointing," he said. "But it's a part of the game. Things happen. And you've just got to adjust." McClellin calls himself 100 percent recovered. His replacement Sunday, David Bass, a seventh-round Raiders draft pick this year who was waived and then signed in Chicago, had an interception and TD return to turn last week's win over Baltimore.
