 Draft Scout Shea McClellin News
08/15/15 - LB Shea McClellin felt positive about his situation going into the season before, but now he is even far more positive at inside linebacker. "From the start I definitely feel better than in any year I started with," he said. "Even going into the (first) game my comfort level was definitely higher than the last three years so that definitely helped out." McClellin had not played inside since college, but in the Vic Fangio scheme he says he has no uncertainty. "I think it's just the ability to go out and play hard and play fast," he said. "The last three years were difficult for me because I was afraid to make mistakes. Now, just let it loose, got nothing to lose." As the Mike linebacker in a 3-4, he is calling signals for the first time and it may have helped his understanding of his own role in the defense. "You've gotta be into it because you're in control of the defense and have to get everyone on the same page," he said. "I'm definitely in tune to everything." Whether it was an illustration of his better knowledge or not, McClellin made the first interception of a Jay Cutler pass in training camp on Saturday (Aug. 15), just a day before the Bears close up camp and head back to Lake Forest. "Linebackers finally got one, so that's good," he said. "And I finally got one as well. I think that's good. You want to break that streak. You don't want to have no interceptions as a defense."
08/04/15 - One surprise after a week of camp is LB Shea McClellin not only still is playing the new position of inside linebacker with the first-team defense but is calling signals. McClellin, often criticized as a draft bust in the past, hasn't had to face much in the way of competition from rehabbing Jon Bostic, though. "If I had to defend the guy in some fashion, he's been in a lot of different positions and been with a lot of different coaches," Fox said of McClellin. "Sometimes that can thwart a guy's development. "He's done a good job and we're evaluating. He's getting an opportunity to perform and compete every day, so we'll see where it takes us."
06/17/15 - LB Shea McClellin has been the object of many a complaining Bears fan's disappointment after failing to contribute much as a first-round draft pick, but the team continues to think it can get something out of him at his third position in four years, inside linebacker. The interesting aspect is a player who hasn't been able to find a niche is now calling defensive signals with the first team, because Jon Bostic hasn't been able to practice due to injury. "I think he's a smart, young player," head coach Fox said about McClellin. "I think he's been moved around. I think he's been in some different systems. I think he's adapted pretty well. We'll get to see where that goes when we get to training camp and when we conclude this camp."
04/29/15 - LB Shea McClellin will not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Bears. The option would have cost the team $7.75 million. McClellin has started 20 games over the past two seasons, but he has recorded just 66 tackles and five sacks.
12/18/14 - LB Shea McClellin went through a complete practice Thursday after an ankle injury was a concern.
