 Draft Scout *Cam Newton News
01/10/18 - QB Cam Newton will look for a healthy offseason and certainly be in need of a replenished receiving corps. He was working back from spring shoulder surgery throughout training camp and into the early portion of the season. Having him in the groove from the get-go will be beneficial looking ahead to 2018. Newton started all 17 games and excelled at times.
01/08/18 - QB Cam Newton's exit from the field and return to Sunday's NFC wild-card game after taking a hard hit in the fourth quarter raised questions about whether the Carolina Panthers followed the NFL's concussion protocol. "We are in contact now with the Panthers' medical staff and we will not comment further until those conversations are completed," the NFL said in a statement Sunday night. Newton slowly got to his feet after he was tackled by New Orleans defensive lineman David Onyemata with 8:26 left in the Panthers' 21-16 loss. After getting to his feet, Newton made his way toward the sideline but then took a knee before getting off the field. The Panthers' medical staff evaluated Newton in the blue injury tent on the sideline and determined that he did not show signs of a concussion. Newton returned for the next offensive series after missing just one play and threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to rookie Christian McCaffery. Newton played valiantly in defeat, taking a tough hit in the fourth quarter, but responding by completing 24-of-40 passes for 349 yards and two scores.
01/08/18 - QB Cam Newton passed for a playoff franchise-record 349 yards at New Orleans. He had the previous mark of 335 yards two years earlier against Arizona.
01/01/18 - QB Cam Newton fell to 2-5 against the Falcons in his hometown of Atlanta as he misfired on his first nine passes and finished 14 of 34 with three interceptions. His passer rating was a dismal 31.5. "We put ourselves behind the eight-ball early and it went from there," Newton said. "We'll have to be better next week." Newton did run for 59 yards on 11 carries, but he was sacked twice and the Panthers couldn't come close to matching their offensive output in a 20-17 home victory over the Falcons on Nov. 7.
01/01/18 - QB Cam Newton's 14-for-34 passing performance with three interceptions came in perhaps his worst career performance. Newton did rush for a team-best 59 yards. That gave him a career-high 754 rushing yards this season, 13 more yards on the ground than he gained in 2012. Newton joined retired Michael Vick as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with three seasons of more than 700 yards rushing.
