 Draft Scout Austin Pettis News
08/12/10 - 2010 BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Austin Pettis, Boise State, has been selected to the preseason watch list for the 2010 Biletnikoff Award. The award, which is named after former Florida State and Oakland Raiders great Fred Biletnikoff, recognizes the top wide receiver in college football. - Biletnikoff Award
08/06/10 - TOP 2011 NFL DRAFT SCOUT PROSPECTS FROM NON-BCS SCHOOLS: 8. Austin Pettis, WR, Boise State, 6-3, 201, 4.61 ... Pettis and Titus Young (6-0, 170, 4.48) form one of the best receiving duos in the country, and could be top-125 selections. Pettis won't run away from a lot of NFL corners, but his 63 receptions for 855 yards and 14 touchdowns last year showed that he doesn't need a lot of room to make plays because of his toughness and exceptional hands. In a league where receivers find it difficult to gain separation from top corners, quarterbacks will appreciate his ability to rein in any pass in his general vicinity. - Chad Reuter, NFLDraftScout.com
01/04/10 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: WR Austin Pettis caught 14 touchdown passes in the first 11 games, then got hurt at the beginning of the Nevada game. He's questionable for the bowl with a lower leg fracture. The Broncos need him because of his ability to make catches in tight spaces.
01/03/10 - Boise State coach Chris Petersen spoke today after practice and said he expects junior receiver Austin Pettis to play Monday in the Fiesta Bowl. Pettis had 14 touchdown catches in the first 11 games before breaking his ankle Nov. 27 against Nevada. "He's not fully (going) in every drill, every route, he's still working through it," Petersen said. "He'll be a factor somehow, someway." Asked the team expects Pettis to play, Petersen said "we do." He also said receiver Tyler Shoemaker is "further along than Austin, so he'll be a factor in there as well." Also of note, Boise State senior cornerback Kyle Wilson has accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. The game will be played Jan. 30 in Mobile, Ala., on the NFL Network at 2 p.m. MST. "Kyle is one of the best cover corners in this year's draft," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said in a release. "The fact that he also doubles as a return guy will only help him here at the Senior Bowl later this month." Wilson is the third Bronco to play in the Senior Bowl, joining offensive linemen Matt Hill (2002) and Daryn Colledge (2006). - Dave Southorn, Idaho Press-Tribune
12/28/09 - Boise State coach Chris Petersen arrived in Phoenix on Monday morning — and immediately made news in advance of the Jan. 4 Fiesta Bowl against TCU. "We have three young guys that didn’t make the trip. We kind of say it’s not meeting the Broncos standards. We don’t say why. They just didn’t meet the standards that we kind of try to live by," Petersen said. The players are all freshmen: wide receiver Preston Minter, running back Malcolm Johnson and cornerback Raphiel Lambert. None have played this season. Minter and Johnson are redshirting; Lambert is out for the season with a torn ACL. Star wide receiver Austin Pettis (leg) remains a game-time decision, Petersen said. "He’s right on track with what the doctors have hoped but he’s not there yet," Petersen said. - Brian Murphy, The Idaho Statesman
