Draft Scout Mike Pouncey News
09/23/15 - C Mike Pouncey (elbow) was limited in Wednesday's practice but seems OK. Pouncey probably understands the importance of his presence for two reasons: LT Branden Albert (hamstring) could miss the game, and the Dolphins face perhaps their most physical opponent of the season in the Buffalo Bills.
08/31/15 - C Mike Pouncey practiced Monday, two days after leaving the Atlanta game with a left knee injury. Pouncey had a MRI on Sunday and said it showed no serious damage, which is a relief to the Dolphins because the oft-criticized offensive line is just starting to show promise.
The best news, however, is Pouncey said he should be ready for the Sept. 13 opener at Washington.
"I'm ready to go," he said before Monday's practice.
Pouncey was injured in the first quarter when he was blocking on a pass play and a defender rolled into the side of his left leg. Pouncey left the game for a play, returned, and then left for good.
The injury was especially unnerving because Pouncey, who missed the opening four games last year after hip surgery, knew his twin brother Maurkice, Pittsburgh's Pro-Bowl center, was recently sidelined with an ankle injury.
"I was nervous going into the MRI," Mike said, "but it came out good, so we're good."
04/13/15 - C Mike Pouncey signed a contract extension Monday (April 13) that makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL.
As reported Saturday, Pouncey's five-year deal is worth $52.15 million, including $22 million guaranteed and an $11 million signing bonus. The commitment keeps the Dolphins' 2011 first-round pick in Miami through the 2020 season.
The average of more than $10 million per season surpasses the contract of Pittsburgh Steelers center and twin brother Maurkice Pouncey, who averages $8.8 million per season.
Mike Pouncey, who made his second consecutive Pro Bowl last season, is entering his fifth season with the Dolphins. He had been due to earn $7.4 million in 2015 in the final year of his contract.
Pouncey played center for the Dolphins during the 2011-13 seasons but played predominantly at right guard in 2014, starting the final 12 games at that position. The Dolphins plan to move him back to center in 2015.
"We are excited that we were able to sign a contract extension with Mike," general manager Dennis Hickey said in a release issued by the Dolphins. "He is a two-time Pro Bowler, with a team-first approach as evident by moving to guard last season while still playing at a high level. We are happy that he will stay in Miami and be a key member of our offense."
12/29/14 - RG Mike Pouncey said he wants to return to playing center next season. But coach Joe Philbin said no decisions have been made in that regard.
12/24/14 - RG Mike Pouncey could be playing his last game at that position. It's expected Pouncey will move back to C next season, the position where he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013. Pouncey has said his preference is to play C.
