Draft Scout Bilal Powell News
01/04/16 - RB Bilal Powell (ankle) missed the Jets' 22-17 loss to the Bills on Sunday. Powell played just 11 games this season due to the ankle injury but finished with 701 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns.
12/30/15 - RB Bilal Powell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Powell appeared heathy last Sunday, when he led the Jets' backfield in touches and finished with 90 total yards in a 26-20 overtime win over the Patriots. However, he missed four games earlier this season with an ankle injury. Powell has 394 total yards (162 rushing, 232 receiving) during the Jets' five-game winning streak, a stretch in which he has forced a timeshare with RB Chris Ivory in the New York backfield.
10/21/15 - RB Bilal Powell (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday. Powell was injured Sunday, when he was limited to minus-2 yards on four carries and one yard on one reception. If Powell cannot play, lead back Chris Ivory will likely see more work on third downs and in obvious passing situations.
10/18/15 - RB Bilal Powell was active although he was listed as a game-time decision with a groin injury. He was injured again when he sprained his ankle during the first half.
03/11/15 - RB Bilal Powell re-signed with the New York Jets Tuesday (March 10). Powell was one of the first players new head coach Todd Bowles called in January when he was hired to replace Rex Ryan. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent.
Powell was effective when he saw the field but was largely behind running backs Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson, whose option wasn't exercised, in the team's rotation and had only 33 carries for 141 yards in 2014.
Powell, 26, was a fourth-round pick in 2011. The Buffalo Bills, now coached by Ryan, were reportedly targeting Powell in free agency.
In 2013, when Powell started 11 games, he rushed 176 times for 697 yards (4.0 yards per carry).
