Draft Scout Bilal Powell News
11/26/14 - RB Bilal Powell (illness) was a late scratch for the Jets prior to their 38-3 loss to the Bills on Monday night. Rex Ryan said following the game that Powell began to feel sick about two hours before the Jets' bus headed to Ford Field. Powell worked out before the game but was dizzy and couldn't get clearance. The illness snapped Powell's consecutive games played streak at 34.
10/17/14 - RB Bilal Powell suffered a foot injury in the second half of the Jets' 27-25 loss to the Patriots on Thursday night. Head coach Rex Ryan said Friday that he believed anyone injured Thursday was feeling better Friday. Powell had one carry for seven yards in the defeat.
09/20/13 - RB Bilal Powell (illness) was a full participant in practice Thursday, a day after missing practice entirely. He is expected to play his usual role when the Jets host the Bills on Sunday. Powell, who has served thus far as the JetsO lead back over Chris Ivory in a running back by committee, has rushed 25 times for 77 yards and a touchdown and caught six passes for 57 yards.
09/18/13 - RB Bilal Powell (illness, shoulder) did not participate in practice on Wednesday. Powell was listed as a full participant in practice with the shoulder injury the first two weeks but coach Rex Ryan said Wednesday he missed practice solely because of the illness. Through two games this year, Powell has 77 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries and six catches for 57 yards.
08/20/13 - RB Bilal Powell appeared to be on the roster bubble when the Jets signed Mike Goodson in March and traded for Chris Ivory in April. But with Goodson yet to report this summer due to personal reasons and Ivory battling a hamstring injury that sidelined him for most of training camp, Powell emerged as the Jets' best -- and, more importantly, most reliable -- running back. Powell bounced back from a subpar performance against the Lions by rushing for a game-high 68 yards on just seven carries against the Jaguars on Saturday. At the very least, Powell seems likely to have earned a timeshare role similar to the one he had last year, when he was paired with Shonn Greene in the second half of the season. At most, the Jets might have a sneaky every-down back candidate in Powell, who is solid as a pass-catcher and as a blitz protector.
