Draft Scout Bobby Rainey News
10/14/15 - RB Bobby Rainey was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after he averaged 25.8 yards on three punt returns against Jacksonville, including a 58-yarder to set up a touchdown.
"It's very rewarding," coach Lovie Smith said. "Bobby had a good feeling as he came to me last week about knowing that - he thought he could be a difference in what we've been doing. I'm just pleased with that entire running back room.
Rainey said he put the pressure on himself to make a play in the kicking game against the Jags.
"This week it was different because we were looking for that spark," Rainey said. "I took it upon myself. Like I told the guys on special teams, 'It's got to come from us. We can't win them all on offense or defense.' And those guys did a great job of blocking. They actually gave me a chance to get some returns in, with no penalties bringing them back, which was great."
10/12/15 - PR Bobby Rainey returned a Jaguars punt 58 yards to set up a touchdown. It was the Bucs' longest return since Micheal Spurlock had a 77-yarder in 2009. "Credit goes to those guys blocking up front," said Rainey, who also had a 25-yard punt return to set up another touchdown. "I'm always trying to be the difference-maker, period. I'm always trying to make a play."
04/25/15 - Restricted free-agent RB Bobby Rainey signed a one-year, $1.542 million tender offer with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday (April 24).
The 5-foot-8, 212-pound Rainey was claimed off waivers in 2013 from the Cleveland Browns. He played in 15 games and started five for the Buccaneers last year. The 27-year-old Rainey rushed for 406 yards and one touchdown on 94 carries and caught 33 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown in 2014. He is the team's leading rusher the past two years with 972 yards and six touchdowns on 244 carries.
03/08/15 - RB Bobby Rainey, restricted FA update, is a reliable rotation running back who nearly led the team in rushing again. Rainey can contribute on specials teams and does not complain when he doesn't get the ball. But the Bucs have a logjam at the position with Doug Martin and Charles Sims.
12/29/14 - RB Bobby Rainey did not have a carry from scrimmage the last five games.
