Draft Scout Bobby Rainey News
03/05/14 - RB Bobby Rainey signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers.
Rainey was an exclusive-rights free agent, which meant the Bucs needed only to offer him a contract to keep his rights. The one-year deal puts him back on the traditional NFL cycle of being a restricted free agent after his third NFL season in the spring of 2015, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Rainey stepped into a starting role with the Buccaneers after starter Doug Martin and backup Mike James suffered injuries and rushed for 163 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns in his first extended playing time (Nov. 17 against the Atlanta Falcons). He also had a touchdown catch. He added a 127-yard game Week 14 in a win over the Buffalo Bills.
Rainey led the Buccaneers with 532 rushing yards in 2013.
The Western Kentucky standout started last season with the Cleveland Browns and entered the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
12/09/13 - RB Bobby Rainey's 80-yard run for a touchdown against the Bills is the longest run from scrimmage in team history.
11/25/13 - RB Bobby Rainey, a week after bursting onto the NFL scene with 163 yards rushing and three touchdowns in his first start, was held to just 35 yards over 18 carries against the Lions Sunday. "They really stormed the castle," coach Greg Schiano said of the Lions defense.
11/20/13 - RB Bobby Rainey took first-team reps at tailback Wednesday.
10/22/13 - RB Bobby Rainey was claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers from the Browns on Monday. With RB Doug Martin expected to miss Thursday's game, Tampa Bay need another running back.
