Draft Scout Bobby Rainey News
09/19/14 - RB Bobby Rainey started in place of the injured Doug Martin. Rainey finished with 41 yards on 11 carries and caught seven passes for 64 yards. But the Bucs finished with only 64 yards on the ground.
09/19/14 - RB Bobby Rainey has lost three fumbles this season and was benched for much of Thursday night's game.
09/15/14 - RB Bobby Rainey came up huge stepping in for an injured Doug Martin on Sunday, rushing for 144 yards and adding another 30 on passes, but that was all lost in the final score of a 19-17 loss to the Rams.
"That doesn't matter when we lose," Rainey said. "You can have all the yards that you want, and if your team comes out with a loss, it means nothing. At the end of the day, it's about the team."
09/14/14 - RB Bobby Rainey broke out in a big way in the Bucs' 19-17 loss to the Rams on Sunday, tallying 144 rushing yards on 22 carries while Doug Martin was sidelined. Rainey added 30 yards on three receptions. It was Rainey's third career 100-yard rushing game. He became one of only six running backs in Bucs history to run the ball at least 20 times while maintaining an average of 6.5 yards or better. Martin's status for Week 3 remains to be seen, and it is unclear how the Bucs will use Rainey alongside Martin after such a strong performance.
03/05/14 - RB Bobby Rainey signed a one-year contract with the Buccaneers.
Rainey was an exclusive-rights free agent, which meant the Bucs needed only to offer him a contract to keep his rights. The one-year deal puts him back on the traditional NFL cycle of being a restricted free agent after his third NFL season in the spring of 2015, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Rainey stepped into a starting role with the Buccaneers after starter Doug Martin and backup Mike James suffered injuries and rushed for 163 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns in his first extended playing time (Nov. 17 against the Atlanta Falcons). He also had a touchdown catch. He added a 127-yard game Week 14 in a win over the Buffalo Bills.
Rainey led the Buccaneers with 532 rushing yards in 2013.
The Western Kentucky standout started last season with the Cleveland Browns and entered the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
