Draft Scout Derrick Shelby News
10/17/16 - DT Derrick Shelby suffered what was announced as a calf injury and didn't return to the action. The trainers looked at his right foot and ankle area. He had a boot on his right foot and was on crutches after the game. Coach Dan Quinn didn't have an update on Monday.
06/16/16 - DL Derrick Shelby is changing positions.
He is moving to the defensive tackle position after spending the last four seasons at defensive end for the Miami Dolphins.
"Getting used to always playing covered up," Shelby said. "Last year I was on the edge and this year I will be covered up in the interior of the line. That is one thing I got to get used to."
Shelby is expected to play opposite nose tackle Grady Jarrett in the base 4-3.
In 2015, he collected 37 tackles and registered 3.5 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles and one interception in a reserve role.
Shelby, an undrafted rookie out of Utah, came to the Falcons in early March. He signed for four years and $18 million in free agency.
03/11/16 - DE Derrick Shelby, who became an unrestricted free agent with the Dolphins March 9, was signed by the Falcons Wednesday (March 9).
01/04/16 - DE Derrick Shelby (37 tackles, 3.5 sacks) had a decent year. But he could enter free agency, and he said he doesn't know whether he'll follow the money, go to the best team, or stay in Miami.
11/04/15 - DE Derrick Shelby will be under pressure to produce a pass rush as he fills in for DE Came Wake (Achilles) for the remainder of the season. Shelby is valued as a reserve pass rusher, but now that he's in a starting role his production will be more closely scrutinized against the run and pass.
