Draft Scout Derek Sherrod News
11/30/13 - OT Derek Sherrod made his first appearance on the offensive line in nearly two years, replacing right tackle Don Barclay late in 40-10 loss at Detroit on Thursday. Sherrod, the team's first-round draft pick in 2011, missed the entire 2012 season and most of this season after recovering from a broken leg that later caused complications.
11/06/13 - --OT Derek Sherrod still will need time to round into playing form despite being activated from the PUP list and added to the 53-man roster Tuesday. Sherrod, the team's first-round draft pick in 2011, practiced the last three weeks. He hasn't played a down of football since he sustained a broken fibula and tibia in his right leg in the Packers' loss at the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 18, 2011. "I think it's realistic to try to get him ready at both tackle positions and get him reps on both sides," head coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's been able to do some extra work after practice. (But) he needs padded work, frankly ... (and) we won't be in pads this week coming off (the) Monday night (game). We'll just continue to work on his footwork, assignments and things like that."
10/16/13 - --OT Derek Sherrod was cleared to practice Wednesday for the first time since the team's 2011 first-round draft pick sustained a broken leg in a game at Kansas City on Dec. 18, 2011. Sherrod missed the entire 2012 season because of the injury, and his anticipated return in the spring was pushed back after he underwent surgery for an ankle issue that cropped up in the same leg. Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated Sherrod, who is on the PUP list, will gradually be worked into practice the next few weeks before the team has to make a decision on whether to add him to the 53-man roster this season.
10/10/13 - --OT Derek Sherrod (leg, ankle) is expected to rejoin the team on the practice field in the coming weeks. Sherrod, the team's 2011 first-round draft pick, has been on the reserve/PUP list since the start of the season and is eligible to resume practicing with the team next week. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday "the biggest hurdle he'll have to get over next is pads. He needs to get in pads, and he needs to get in there. Once he gets over that hurdle, I think he'll be ready to go." Sherrod hasn't played since suffering a broken right leg in December 2011, and his anticipated return this summer was thwarted after complications in his recovery resulted in him needing ankle surgery earlier in the offseason.
08/28/13 - T Derek Sherrod (leg) was placed on reserve/physically unable to perform by the Packers Tuesday.
