Draft Scout Devon Still News
08/04/17 - DE Devon Still, whose young daughter captured the hearts of millions during her cancer fight three years ago, signed with the New York Jets on Friday. Still, who spent his first three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, appeared in three games for the Houston Texans in 2016. A foot injury forced Still to injured reserve in October. Originally the Bengals' second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft out of Penn State, the 28-year-old Still owns 43 career tackles and a half-sack in 33 games. Still, a native of Camden, N.J., announced in 2014 that his then 4-year-old daughter, Leah, had been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer. He put his football career on hold to focus on his daughter's illness and recovery. Leah, who turned 7 in May, underwent surgery in March 2015 to remove the tumor, and Still announced eight months later that she was in remission. Father and daughter were honored at the 2015 ESPYs, where they received the Jimmy V award for their courage and determination.
08/09/16 - DE Devon Still is listed as a starter on the depth chart.
01/10/16 - DE Devon Still was signed by the Texans to a future contract for 2016 Wednesday (Jan. 6).
09/05/15 - DT Devon Still was cut by the Cincinnati Bengals. Still, whose daughter Leah is battling cancer, was kept on the practice squad last year as a show of support by the team before being added to the 53-man roster. He re-signed in the offseason after not getting much attention as a free agent.
03/19/15 - DT Devon Still, who wasn't tendered by the Bengals as a restricted free agent, was re-signed by the team Thursday (March 19).
Calling it a good week would be to undersell the past few days for Still, who re-signed two days after doctors informed him his 4-year-old daughter is likely cancer free.
Agent Drew Rosenhaus said "Congrats to Devon Still on signing his contract with the Bengals. It has truly been a special week for you and your family," in a Twitter post (@RosenhausSports) early Thursday.
Still is a rotational player who spent his first three seasons with the team coming out of Penn State, where he was an All-Big Ten pick. He became a free agent when the Bengals elected not to tender him as a restricted free agent.
Still's recent past has been dominated by the emotional journey with his daughter. He said Tuesday on Instagram "We got Leah's MIBG Scans back tonight and the doctors told us they didn't see any active disease in her body!!!"
The Bengals and NFL have been visibly supportive of Still and his daughter, honoring her during one game last October and contributing a portion of jersey sales to the family for treatments.
