09/09/13 - DT Joe Vellano, an undrafted rookie out of Maryland, saw significant rotational reps in his first career NFL gaming, spelling both Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly at times along the defensive line.
08/24/13 - DL Joe Vellano limped off with an apparent left knee injury in the third preseason game against the Lions.
05/03/13 - Patriots sign 19 Rookie Free Agents...Vellano, 24, played defensive tackle as a sophomore and junior before being moved to end as a senior at Maryland. The 6-2, 285-pounder, was elected as a team captain in 2011 and 2012 and was All-ACC First-Team as a senior in 2012 after finishing with 61 total tackles and six sacks. - New England Patriots

This year, for the first time under the auspices of the ACC, the league's 12 head football coaches voted for an All-ACC football team.
