 Draft Scout Derrick Washington News
03/05/13 - Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion Tuskegee will hold its Pro Day today at 1 p.m. at Cleve Abbot Stadium. Scouts from six NFL teams, a list that includes the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars, are scheduled to be in attendance. Nine players, a group headlined by conference Player of the Year running back Derrick Washington, a Missouri transfer, will work out.

Washington was one of eight finalists for the Harlon Hill Trophy award, the Division II equivalent to the Heisman. The 6-foot, 215-pounder rushed for 1,679 yards and 14 touchdowns in his only season in a Golden Tigers' uniform and played in the inaugural Raycom College Football All-Star Classic in Montgomery back in January along with teammate and first-team all-conference defensive back William Buford. - Nick Birdsong, Alabama Live

11/23/12 - Derrick Washington ran for 95 yards and a touchdown and threw a 57-yard pass on a halfback option to help Tuskegee beat Alabama State 27-25 on Thursday in the Turkey Day Classic, spoiling the Hornets' first game at New ASU Stadium. Washington also had three catches for 32 yards for the Southern Intercollegiate champion Tigers (10-1). Justin Nared was 9 of 16 for 161 yards and two touchdowns, a 40-yard strike to Marquel Gardner in the second quarter and a 16-yarder to Kaleep Williams in the third. Gardner had four catches for 149 yards.

Alabama State (7-4) had a chance to tie with 2:04 to play, but Greg Jenkins' two-point conversion pass failed. The Hornets cut it to 24-19 early in the fourth quarter on Jenkins' 5-yard pass to Jarrett Neely, Tuskegee made it 27-19 on Eduardo Murillo's 20-yard field with 5:22 to go, and Alabama State completed the scoring on Isaiah Crowell's 1-yard run before the deciding two-point try failed. Jenkins was 20 of 26 for 147 yards and an interception and also ran for 106 yards on 15 carries. Crowell led the Hornets in rushing with 118 yards on 18 carries. - AP Sports

11/22/12 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: In his first and only season at Tuskegee, Washington, a transfer from University of Missouri, has been the lightning rod for Tuskegee’s 9-1 record this year. As the seventh overall rusher in the nation, the Raymore, Missouri native, led the conference in rushing with 1,399 yards and 13 touchdowns while leading Tuskegee to its 26th SIAC Football Championship. He also averaged 8.1 yards per carry and rushed for more than 100 yards in six games, while running for 200-plus yards three times this season. In his last two outings, Washington rushed for 208 yards against Miles and 224 yards against Fort Valley State in the SIAC Championship game. - SIAC football

09/14/12 - Former Mizzou running back Derrick Washington was convicted of deviate sexual assault in 2011 and spent 120 days in jail. After Washington completed “shock incarceration,” he later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic assault against an ex-girlfriend, but did not spend any additional time in jail. Now, Washington is back on the football field. Wearing jersey number two, the Raymore, MO., native is getting a second chance with the Division II Tuskegee University Golden Tigers. This past Saturday Washington rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns in his team’s 35-17 win over Johnson C. Smith in Atlanta. Washington was named the MVP of the Inner City Classic. His head coach Willie Slater had this to say about Washington’s performance. “He had missed a couple of cuts upfield early,” Slater said. “But, when he gets going, he is hard to stop.” - Tuskegee football
