03/01/16 - DE Muhammad Wilkerson was tagged as the franchise player by the Jets Tuesday (March 1) with a tender worth $15.701 million.
01/15/16 - DE Muhammad Wilkerson will be sidelined approximately six months after recent surgery to repair his broken right leg. Wilkerson broke his right fibula in the season-ending loss to the Buffalo Bills. He underwent surgery to repair the break and the team finally released a timetable for his recovery on Thursday.
Complicating the situation for both parties is that Wilkerson is slated to become an unrestricted free agent. The Jets can prevent that by placing the franchise tag on him if they can't sign him by the March 1 deadline.
General manager Mike Maccagnan is expecting to work something out with Wilkerson.
"The simple answer is yes," Maccagnan told reporters. "We'd very much like to have Muhammad back in the organization."
The two sides attempted to negotiate a long-term contract prior to last season but couldn't reach an agreement. Wilkerson played for $6.97 million in 2015 and posted a career-best 12 sacks.

12/13/15 - DE Muhammad Wilkerson had a monster day Sunday, when he collected a career-high three sacks in the Jets' 30-8 win over the Titans. Wilkerson took down Titans QB Marcus Mariota twice in the second quarter and once in the fourth quarter. His previous career high for sacks in a game was two, achieved four times. The three sacks Sunday increased Wilkerson's season total to a career high 12. His previous high was 10.5 sacks, which he recorded in 2013. Wilkerson's 12 sacks are the most by a Jets player since Shaun Ellis racked up 12 sacks in 2003.
