Mallett (6-0, 210) spent the 2009 season as a member of the Canadian Football League's BC Lions, where he rushed for 1,280 yards and six touchdowns on 214 carries (5.8 average), adding 43 receptions for 342 yards and two touchdowns. He was named to the West Division All-Star team and also earned the 2009 CFL Most Outstanding Rookie award. "He had a terrific first year, rookie of the year in Canada. He can do a lot of things," said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. "He can run the football. He can catch the football. He can run routes at a high level for a running back."
