Draft Scout Ahtyba Rubin News
09/15/17 - DL Ahtyba Rubin signed with the Denver Broncos. Rubin is a 10th-year player who appeared in 132 regular-season games (107 starts) with the Seattle Seahawks (2015-16) and Cleveland (2008-14) after being selected by the Browns in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Iowa State. Rubin, 31, was among the Seahawks' final roster cuts earlier this month. The 6-2, 310-pound Rubin started at least 11 games in each of the last seven seasons and owns career totals of 413 tackles, 15 sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed, six forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
03/08/16 - DT Ahtyba, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday, was signed to a three-year contract by the Seahawks Monday (March 7).
12/21/15 - DT Ahtyba Rubin is headed to the playoffs for the first time in his career after spending the first seven seasons of his career in Cleveland.
"It's everything," Rubin said. "It's one step forward to getting to where I've always wanted to be at. It's a great feeling. Like I said, I've never won more than eight games, and this is a great feeling."
03/19/15 - DT Ahtyba Rubin left the Browns for the Seahawks Thursday (March 19), agreeing to terms on a one-year contract. Rubin had played the past seven seasons in Cleveland, where he was a sixth-round pick in 2008.
The 6-foot-2, 325-pounder twice has surpassed 80 tackles in a season (2010 and 2011) and just finished a four-year, $26.5 million contract.
Last season, an ankle injury limited him to 28 tackles in 13 games -- possibly the reason his market was not more robust.
03/08/15 - DT Ahtyba Rubin, unrestricted FA update, has played for five head coaches since being drafted in the sixth round in 2008. He is versatile enough to play in a 3-4 or a 4-3, which is why he has lasted so long, and he is one the most popular players in the locker room. Injuries and a different system last year, however, caused his tackle production to dip from 80 in 2013 to just 28 last season. If the Browns do not re-sign him he could quickly end up in Houston with defensive Romeo Crennel, his first head coach with the Browns in 2008, or Denver where former Browns general manager Tom Heckert is the director of pro personnel.
