Draft Scout Brandon Weeden News
08/29/14 - QB Brandon Weeden will be the backup quarterback to Tony Romo in 2014. The Cowboys say they are comfortable with him starting if Romo goes down with an injury. But they also realize Weeden still needs a lot of work after an uninspiring preseason.
Weeden finished the preseason completing 34 of 57 passes for 388 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and a 77. 2 passer rating.
08/24/14 - QB Brandon Weeden had another solid outing to cement his spot as the primary backup. Weeden completed five of nine passes for 77 yards and a touchdown pass of 27 yards to LaRon Byrd.
08/10/14 - QB Brandon Weeden was very impressive in his first official outing as Cowboys quarterback.
Weeden completed 13 of 17 passes for 107 yards with one touchdown in the first half.
He showed lively arm. But also showed touch and resolve.
His opening drive -- the only one with the first team offensive line -- was stalled by an illegal hands to the face penalty against guard Mackenzy Bernadeau.
An undeterred Weeden brought the Cowboys right back down the field on the ensuing drive, going 80 yards on 11 plays.
Weeden completed four of four passes on the drive. And saved the best for last, a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end James Hanna after rolling right and delivered the ball to the back of the end zone before taking a huge hit.
Weeden's next drive ended because of receiver Tim Benford wasn't ready for the ball on 3rd and 1. And the clock ran out on the last one at the end of the half.
All in all it was a very good first impression for the former Browns bust who is now one injury away from being the starting quarterback of the Cowboys.
03/19/14 - QB Brandon Weeden was signed by the Cowboys to a two-year contract after being released by the Browns.
ESPN.com reported that Weeden visited with the coaches at Valley Ranch on Monday. Weeden, who was released by the Browns last week, is expected to be the third quarterback under contract behind Tony Romo and Kyle Orton.
Weeden, the team's first-round draft pick in 2012, struggled in his two seasons with the Browns. He started 20 games but was replaced at the beginning of the 2013 season by Brian Hoyer, then returned as the starter when Hoyer was hurt before being replaced for the remainder of the season by veteran Jason Campbell.
The 30-year-old Weeden's record as a starter was 5-15. He threw for 5,116 yards, completing 55.9 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.
12/13/13 - --QB Brandon Weeden had full participation Thursday. He was limited (concussion protocol) Wednesday.
