 Draft Scout Brandon Weeden News
05/03/13 - QB Brandon Weeden must compete for the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback job, which isn't a surprise to the second-year passer drafted in the first round of the 2012 draft by a different management regime. First-year coach Rob Chudzinski said he won't hand the job to any quarterback, including incumbent starter Weeden, until a competition with veteran backup Jason Campbell plays out.
04/17/13 - New Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski didn't hand Brandon Weeden the starting quarterback job when he was hired, and the team signed veteran Jason Campbell to provide competition. Weeden did take all of the first-team reps during the first day of the Browns' offseason program Tuesday, but Chudzinski cautioned it's extremely early in the process. He called this week a "learning camp" rather than an assessment camp. "Just seeing what guys are taking from the meeting room out to the field," said Chudzinski. "We will work through that process. Campbell will get some reps with the ones as well along the way. But this is a long, long process that we are going to have and there is a long time between now and our opener. We've got plenty of time and this is just the first step."
01/02/13 - QB Brandon Weeden missed the last game with an injured shoulder. He plans to rest his arm until mid-February before he starts throwing again, although he said if the Browns were playing for the Super Bowl on Sunday he would find a way to play. Weeden was injured on Dec. 23 when he was sacked by Broncos linebacker Von Miller.
01/02/13 - QB Brandon Weeden plans on resting his right shoulder for about six weeks. He will not need surgery.
12/31/12 - QB Brandon Weeden admits his future with the Browns is uncertain with a coaching and GM change. Weeden was a first-round draft choice of Tom Heckert and Pat Shurmur, but both were fired Monday. A new coach might want his own quarterback, which could make Weeden tradeable. Weeden himself shot down leading one of the offenses for a possible hire when asked about Oregon's Chip Kelly. "I can't run the zone read option offense,"¯Weeden said.
