Draft Scout Brooks Reed News
09/15/14 - OLB Brooks Reed, who's off to the best start of his four-year career, intercepted his first pass. In the fourth quarter at Oakland, J.J. Watt hit rookie quarterback Derek Carr as he threw, and the ball fluttered into Reed's hands. To get ready for the season, Reed spent two months in Wisconsin working out with Watt. This is the last season of Reed's career.
09/08/14 - OLB Brooks Reed, who's in the last year of his contract, may have played the best game of his career. He had a sack, three hits on the quarterback, two tackles for loss and five tackles. He set up another sack and flushed a player tackled for a 9-yard loss by Jadeveon Clowney.
09/03/14 - OLB Brooks Reed, who's starting on the strong side for a fourth consecutive year, said he's excited to see what defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel calls against the Redskins. Crennel kept the calls as vanilla as Blue Bell in preseason. Reed said he can't wait to see what Crennel will do when he takes off the wrapper.
09/01/14 - SOLB Brooks Reed starts for the fourth season, a contract year. He's solid against the run, drops when he's called on, but he needs to improve as a pass rusher.
07/27/14 - LB Brooks Reed worked inside during the OTAs after starting outside during his first three seasons. Reed has always played over the tight end, but new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel wanted to see how smooth of a transition he could make and possibly start next to Brian Cushing.
If Reed can play inside, Whitney Mercilus can move from the weak to the strong side to make room for rookie Jadeveon Clowney. Mercilus, another former first-round pick, had seven sacks last year in his first full season as a starter and 6 ½ as a rookie coming off the bench.
During the first day of camp, Reed was back outside. The coaches want him to be able to play both positions.
