Draft Scout Case Keenum News
12/24/13 - QB Case Keenum could miss the Tennessee game because of ligament damage in his right thumb.
12/18/13 - QB Case Keenum's thumb injury might be fortunate for him. He's coming off his worst game in the 25-3 loss last week at Indianapolis – his eighth consecutive defeat as a starter.
Keenum was 18-for-34 passing for 168 yards. He threw two interceptions and no touchdown passes. He was sacked four times, including once for a safety. His rating was 42.3.
"He had a rough game overall," interim coach Wade Phillips said. "Sometimes young quarterbacks have to hit rock bottom to bounce back up. Some of them don't bounce back up and don't end up good quarterbacks.
"He's a great kid. I think he takes the blame for everything, but we've got to help him. He saw the blitzes when they were coming, but seeing blitzes and getting rid of the football is different than just seeing them.
"That and reading coverages is not an easy process, especially for a young quarterback to know exactly where to go with even though he goes through it over and over in his meetings."
12/17/13 - QB Case Keenum suffered a sprained thumb on his right hand. His status for Denver is undetermined. Keenum is 0-8 as the starter. The Colts game was his first by more than seven points. It also was the first in which the offense didn't have the ball late in the game with a chance to tie or win.
12/11/13 - --QB Case Keenum has been told he'll start and finish the last three games. Unlike two times during his seven starts, he doesn't have to worry about being benched for Matt Schaub.
12/06/13 - QB Case Keenum will remain as the starting quarterback over the last three games.
Former coach Gary Kubiak said after Thursday's loss to Jacksonville that he might return Matt Schaub as the starter. Owner Bob McNair put that possibility to rest on Friday.
"We have a young quarterback, and we need to find out whether Case is capable of being a starter or whether he's capable of being a backup," McNair said. "The way you find that out is by playing him.
"We have waited to see how that was developing and to see how much progress we could make in the development of him as a player. We're at the point now where we needed to go ahead and make some changes because losing like this is just unacceptable and something that we just can't tolerate."
