Post-Draft Outlook: A closer look at the Texans' picks: Round 2/46 -- Connor Barwin, DE, 6-4, 256, Cincinnati...He was arguably one of the most versatile athletes in the draft. He played both offensive (tight end) and defensive for the Bearcats, recording 12 sacks and 17 tackles for losses as a senior. He wowed scouts at the Combine, managing a 40 1/2-inch vertical leap and running the 40 in 4.59 seconds. He will play with his hand down as a quarterback-dogging defensive end, probably backing up Mario Williams. - by The Sports Xchange

Draft Scout Connor Barwin News
07/26/13 - CB Conroy Black signed with the Chiefs. Black (6-0, 187) originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders on May 11, 2012. He spent the 2012 preseason with Oakland before being released, then was added to the Detroit Lions practice squad roster on Sept. 18. Black was released by the Lions on May 16, 2013.
03/18/13 - The Philadelphia Eagles signed OLB Connor Barwin to a six-year, $36 million contract worth up to $40.55 million.
The team confirmed the signing Thursday on the heels of signing five other defensive players that should ease the Eagles' transition to a 3-4 defense.
Barwin has 19 career sacks but was coming off of a down year in 2012 with the Houston Texans. It was his first season playing without All-Pro pass rusher Mario Williams attracting attention from blockers.
Barwin (6-4, 268) was a second-round draft pick (46th overall) of the Texans in 2009.
01/15/13 - OLB Connor Barwin led the team with 11.5 sacks in 2011. He turned down an extension the day before the regular season began. Then he slipped to three sacks this season, none in two playoff games. But he did finish second on the team in tackles against the Patriots, recording seven. He hit Tom Brady twice and recorded one tackle for loss on a running play. The Texans are hoping to re-sign him, but they'll have salary-cap issues again.
01/02/13 - OLB Connor Barwin, who led the team with 11.5 sacks last season, needs to get after Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, who holds the ball too long and gets sacked a lot. The Bengals will focus on J.J. Watt, which should help clear a path to the quarterback for Barwin, who's been limited to three sacks. Saturday is the perfect time for him to break out of his slump.
12/28/12 - OLB Connor Barwin has played the run well this season, but when it comes to sacks, he's the most disappointing player on the team. In his first season playing outside linebacker in Wade Phillips' 3-4, Barwin led the team with 11.5 sacks. The coaches thought he would be in the 15 to 17 neighborhood this season. He turned down a contract extension the week before the regular season began. He has only three sacks in the last year of his contract. It's never too late for him to start. A multiple sack game against the Colts and then a repeat performance in the playoffs might get him another extension.
