 Draft Scout Eric Kettani News
07/23/09 - RB Eric Kettani (Navy) was placed on Reserve/Military by New England.
02/13/09 - Fullback Eric Kettani, only the second Navy player to be invited to Senior Bowl, will not be attending next week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. In a ruling made Friday by Secretary of the Navy Donald C. Winter, Kettani will not be allowed to attend the annual six-day event at which the top NFL prospects have a chance to improve their standing among their peers. Kettani is committed to the Navy for five years after his graduation this spring. There’s a possibility he could serve two years, enter the NFL in 2011 and serve the rest of his Naval committment in the reserves. Kettani rushed for 982 yards and averaged 5.2 yards per carry last season. He finished his Navy career with 2,091 yards (5.3 per attempt) and 15 touchdowns. - NFL.com
12/22/08 - Eric Kettani was stunned by the compliments he received from Wake Forest's defenders following his team's loss in the EagleBank Bowl. "Linebacker Aaron Curry -- I mean, he's going to go in the first round of the NFL Draft -- and he said I'm one of the best fullbacks or running backs he's ever played against," the senior fullback said. "From him, that's a huge compliment. During the game, they were laughing and telling me 'You ain't having a big game against us again.'" Curry, who won the Butkus award as the country's best linebacker, was right. Kettani was held to just 50 yards on 14 carries in a 29-19 loss after rushing for a then-career high 175 yards on just 19 carries in Navy's 24-17 win on Sept. 27. Kettani, who finished just 18 yards shy of 1,000 for the season, said he looked forward to playing in a pair of all-star games, but the team's other 30 seniors likely put on their helmets and shoulder pads for the final time. "It was very solemn in the locker room, and there's not much you can say to comfort people," said Kettani, carrying his helmet autographed by teammates outside of the locker room at RFK Stadium. "Jarod Bryant's been playing since he was 5-years-old. For me, I've been playing just eight years since high school, but that's an eternity in football." Kettani travels to Houston on Jan. 17 for the East-West Shrine Game at Robertson Stadium, before packing his bags to perform in front of NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 24. But any hopes of a pro career for Kettani, who has been assigned to surface warfare for his commission, likely would have to wait. He's obligated to complete five years of military service after his expected graduation this spring. - Dave Carey, Baltimore Examiner
12/20/08 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: SL Shun White and FB Erioc Kettani -- The pair is the first set of 2,000-yard career rushing teammates Navy has ever had. They combined for a huge game against Army and White comes into the bowl game with 1,021 yards on the season, Kettani on the verge of 1,000 with 932.
12/18/08 - Senior Bowl Invite: Navy senior fullback Eric Kettani (Kirtland, Ohio) has been selected to the 2009 Senior Bowl All-Star Game, which will be played Saturday, January 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Game time is 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the NFL Network. The Senior Bowl features the country's best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South that are coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams. Kettani is just the second player in school history to be selected for the game. Napoleon McCallum was named the MVP of the 1986 Senior Bowl. Kettani, who is the ninth leading rusher in school history, has rushed for 2,041 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career. His career average of 5.4 yards per carry is the sixth-best rushing average in school history. He enters Saturday's EagleBank Bowl just 68 yards shy of 1,000 yards rushing for the season. If he can eclipse that mark, Kettani will join Shun White as the second backfield in school history and third in Service Academy history to have two running backs over 1,000 yards in the same season. - Navy football
