 Draft Scout Marcus Easley News
02/03/10 - Texas vs. the Nation, Tuesday: The Texas squad has two big-bodied receivers in Marcus Easley (6-2, 214, UConn) and Juamorris Stewart (6-1, 201, Southern University) that have used their strong hands and size effectively against smaller defenders this week. Keeping their balance on out or comeback routes has proven problematic and shows their inexperience. But like the Texas receivers mentioned above, coaches will work with Easley and Stewart in training camp to turn raw tools into something more. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com
12/26/09 - Connecticut Coach Randy Edsall admitted this week that he didn't know of receiver Marcus Easley when the receiver got to campus five years ago. "When you're a walk-on," Easley said later Monday, "you start at the bottom. Nobody knows who you are." From that anonymous status, Easley has morphed into the key to the Huskies' improving pass game. The in-state product, who entered the season with five career catches, caught a touchdown in each of UConn's seven Big East games this season. His 44 catches led the team and brought him to the brink of all-conference status. Now, everyone knows his name, especially NFL scouts. Easley ran a 4.39 40-yard dash on last year's pro day. A similar performance, combined with a strong showing in the Papajohns.com Bowl against South Carolina, should give him a chance in the NFL. - Dave Curtis, The Sporting News
12/01/09 - 12/01 NFL DRAFT SCOUT RISER: Marcus Easley, WR, Connecticut: Few receivers in recent history have increased their production as much as Easley has this fall. Before this season he had five career receptions for 102 yards; in Saturday's win over Syracuse he caught six balls for 105 yards and two scores. UConn's leading receiver averages 20.3 yards on his 36 grabs using his 6-2, 216-pound frame and sub-4.5 speed. Some scouts will treat him as a one-year wonder and he's no finished product (though wide open on his first touchdown, he still double-caught the ball). But his postseason workout and big plays this fall may convince a team to take a chance on his future growth in the fifth-to-seventh rounds - which would have been considered a pipe dream coming into the year. - Chad Reuter, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com
10/26/09 - GAME BALL GOES TO: WR Marcus Easley - The senior continues to have a breakout campaign in his final season. He broke the 100-yard receiving barrier for the third week in a row, setting a career high with 157 yards vs. West Virginia.
06/06/09 - SPRING MOVERS: WR Marcus Easley - The senior walk-on lost his position atop the depth chart to redshirt freshman Isiah Moore in April, but made a strong case for getting it back during the spring game. He finished with 10 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns, and gave the coaching staff a lot to think about heading into the late spring and summer months.
