08/11/09 - P Tim Masthay, a rookie free agent from Kentucky, was waived by the Colts.
04/13/09 - Tim Masthay is on NFL draft boards as a punter. But he'll likely get drafted for another skill. Masthay finished fifth in the NCAA with a punting average of 45.2 yards, earning All-SEC honors. But NFL scouts trooped to Lexington this draft season to watch Masthay kick off. He's one of the top kickoff specialists on the board and that's one of the hardest skills to find in any draft. The Carolina Panthers carried three kickers last season, a placekicker, punter and kickoff specialist. The Panthers went heavy on the roster with kickers because their kickoff man was the best in the business, Rhys Lloyd, who booted a league-high 30 touchbacks. The Atlanta Falcons use their punter (Michael Koenan) to kick off. Masthay charted 23 touchbacks in his 60 kickoffs at Kentucky last season. He collected 60 touchbacks in his 212 career kickoffs.
