 Draft Scout Wayne Daniels News
08/31/10 - The first question from most TCU fans during the preseason has been: How will the Horned Frogs replace Jerry Hughes on the defensive line? To paraphrase Gary Patterson: You don't. But the Frogs return three starting seniors on the line and have high hopes for Hughes' replacement -- likely Stansly Maponga in the opener. Right end Wayne Daniels is the top returning sack leader with 51/2 in 2009, which was second on the team to Hughes' 111/2. Daniels will be expected to anchor the front four with fellow seniors Kelly Griffin (nose tackle) and Cory Grant (tackle). The trio have 52 combined starts. Maponga (6-foot-2, 260 pounds), a redshirt freshman out of Hebron, appears to have earned the starting spot at left end over Braylon Broughton and Ross Forrest. But he'll have to play well because Broughton and Forrest will likely get a chance to show what they can do. Daniels, Grant and Griffin combined for 106 tackles and 81/2 sacks in '09. They also combined for 20 tackles for losses, including nine by Daniels. Their experience should more than make up for the loss of Hughes, at least statistically. What remains to be seen is whether one of them will become the emotional leader Hughes was on the field and in the locker room. Maponga's quickness off the line and ability to get around the edge will be interesting to watch in the opener. - Stefan Stevenson, Fort Worth Star Telegram

08/01/10 - 2010 PRESEASON ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST FOOTBALL TEAM (MEDIA): DL Wayne Daniels Sr. TCU, has been selected Preseason All-Mountain West Conference for the 2010 college football season as selected by the MWC media. - Mountain West football
07/05/10 - Ten fresh new faces for 2010: Wayne Daniels, DE, redshirt senior, TCU: Daniels, 6-feet-2, 250 pounds, is heading into his fifth season, second as a starter, after a redshirt year in 2007. With Hughes getting most of the attention on the other side, Daniels had 5˝ sacks and nine tackles for loss. TCU coach Gary Patterson specializes in making stars out of players switched from other positions. In high school Daniels played tight end, linebacker and on the defensive line. Not only was Daniels not sure he was a defensive end upon coming to TCU, he wasn't sure he was good enough. - Dennis Dodd, CBSSports.com
