 Draft Scout Chris Maragos News
04/27/10 - 2010 49ERS UNDRAFTED ROOKIE FREE AGENT: S Chris Maragos – Wisconsin – (5-10, 200)...Played in 26 games (19 starts) at safety in his two-year career at Wisconsin after transferring from Western Michigan prior to the 2007 season. Earned honorable mention All-Big Ten and the UW’s Tom Wiesner Award as a senior captain, starting all 13 games and leading team with 4 INTs to go along with 49 tackles, 6 PBUs, 1 sack, 1 FF and 3 TFLs. As a junior, saw action in 13 games (6 starts) and posted 45 tackles and 1 INT. Sat out 2007 season after transferring from Western Michigan. Played in 13 games (8 starts) at wide receiver in 2006 and caught 25 passes for 222 yds., while making 5 tackles on defense. Joined team as a walk-on in the fall and redshirted in 2005. Was an all-state, all-district and all-county selection at William Horlick HS in Racine, WI, where he was a two-time captain and team MVP. Earned all-conference 12 times between football and track. Father, Nick, was a free safety at Northern Iowa, and brother, Troy, was a former Bucky Badger. Earned a degree in business. Born 1/6/87 in Racine, WI. - San Francisco 49ers
03/18/10 - PRO DAY RESULTS: One of the benefits of pro day is that it allows an unheralded prospect to get on the map with an outstanding workout. That is precisely what took place at Wisconsin’s pro day on Thursday. DB Chris Maragos (5-foot-10 1/2, 200 pounds) performed so well that he may just find himself getting drafted in the late rounds come April. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 and 4.47 seconds, had a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot broad jump and did 15 repetitions in the bench press at 225 pounds. Where Maragos really made his mark was in the agility drills. Quickness is a vital attribute for defensive backs, and Maragos showed he has what it takes athletically. His 6.55-second three-cone drill and 3.98-second short shuttle would have been the best times at the NFL Scouting Combine for any position. He also did position drills. – Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/11/10 - Of the seven former Badgers participating, Maragos had perhaps the most impressive day. Leading up to Pro Day, the former UW free safety was looking at the event as a crucial aspect in his progress toward landing a spot with an NFL team in late April. At 5-foot-11, 198 lbs., Maragos is not typically considered one of the faster players on the field. With his performance Wednesday, which was clocked as fast as 4.47 and as slow as 4.52, the Racine native believed he may change people’s perceptions of him. Comparatively, Eric Berry — the highly touted safety out of Tennessee — ran a 4.47 at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. “They all love the way I play on film, and I think the big question mark is if I can run,” Maragos said. “Today, I think we accomplished that.” In talking with the scouts, Maragos was told by all of them that he helped himself quite a bit Wednesday. He expects to get calls from teams and to set up visits in the near future following Pro Day. In the 20-yard shuttle and the three-cone drill, Maragos ran a 3.96 and 6.4, respectively. By comparison, the fastest time listed on the NFL combine website for the shuttle is 4.0 for cornerback A.J. Jefferson of Fresno State. The best time by any safety listed is 4.10 by Tennessee’s Dennis Rogan. “I’ve run faster, but I think the shuttles were probably near the top if not the top times in the country,” Maragos said. “I was really extremely happy with that, and my 40, I was really happy with that; I wanted to get somewhere in the 4.4s.” - Jordan Schelling, UW Badger Herald
03/11/10 - For players like McFadden and Maragos, they were not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, so Wednesday’s Pro Day was their biggest chance to impress scouts. Both players felt they performed well. “I feel really good,” said McFadden, who was told he likely would be a late-round pick or a rookie free agent. “I thought I tested out pretty well as far as what I can do and got some good feedback from the scouts and coaching staffs. A scout from Philadelphia called in when he wasn’t even here, so it was a pretty good day today.” Maragos has been training at a facility in Milwaukee called NX Level. He too thought the hard work paid off. “I was really pleased,” Maragos said of his day. “That was definitely what I wanted to come out and do. My 40 was good; they had me in the 4.4s, so that was really good. My shuttles were great. The biggest thing for me to is that I wanted to come out and do position work and felt really confident in that. I got good feedback from all the scouts. I just wanted to come out here and showcase what I got.” - Wisconsin football
11/25/09 - 2009 ALL-BIG TEN CONFERENCE HONORABLE MENTION (MEDIA): Chris Maragos has been selected Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the Big Ten media. - Wisconsin/Big Ten football
