 Draft Scout John Skelton News
07/14/10 - QB John Skelton (5/155/Fordham) signed a four-year deal. It's worth $1.97 million, according to the National Football Post. It includes a signing bonus around $182,000 and base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000. The Cardinals traded up to get Skelton, a big, strong-armed youngster who tends to be erratic.
05/03/10 - QB John Skelton (5/155), Fordham: The Cardinals traded up to get Skelton, a big, strong-armed youngster. Tends to be erratic, however.
04/25/10 - A closer look at the Cardinals' picks: Round 5/155 -- John Skelton, QB, 6-5, 243, Fordham: The Cardinals traded up to get Skelton, a big, strong-armed youngster. Tends to be erratic, however.
04/25/10 - With the selection of Fordham's John Skelton in the fifth round, the Cardinals have three huge quarterbacks. Starter Matt Leinart is 6-4 and 224 pounds. Backup Derek Anderson is 6-6 and 230 and Skelton is 6-5 and 243 pounds. "We might have the biggest group in the league," Whisenhunt said.
04/11/10 - John Skelton was lightly recruited coming out of El Paso, Texas, so he figured if he couldn't play at a big-time football school he'd at least get a good education. So his uncle Javier Loya, a minority owner of the Houston Texans, took him on a tour of Northeast colleges, dropping off game tape and hoping to drum up interest at Columbia, Holy Cross, New Hampshire and Fordham among others. Skelton had never even heard of Fordham until the visit, but four seasons later, he leaves as the school's career leader in passing yards (9,923), including 69 TDs. Skelton's mechanics, particularly his footwork, need polish. But he has excellent size (6-5, 243) and a strong arm. - Jim Thomas, Post-Dispatch
