 Draft Scout Marc Mariani News
06/08/16 - WR Marc Mariani showed again in OTA practidce that he has quarterback Jay Cutler's confidence with two long gainers in the center of the field. One came on a short catch and long run and the other carried further downfield. Both split two-deep coverage. The two seemed to develop a chemistry last year when the first four receivers went out due to injuries. Cutler started throwing to his slot receiver, Mariani, and getting key first-down catches. Mariani's value as a return man and the ability to make catches in the offense make it seem likely he'll get every opportunity to stick with the team despite the addition of rookie receiver Daniel Braverman in the seventh round.
03/12/16 - WR Marc Mariani, who became an unrestricted free agent March 9, re-signed with the Bears Saturday (March 12).
11/01/15 - WR Marc Mariani made one of the highlight catches of the game Sunday out of the slot on the final scoring drive of the game for the Bears. But his hands were the source of some concern in the first quarter, when he muffed consecutive punts. Mariani was charged with two fumbles. The Bears are likely to audition players for the role this week, at least from their own roster.
11/20/14 - WR/KR Marc Mariani was signed by the Bears to a two-year contract Wednesday (Nov. 19). Mariani appeared in 32 games over four seasons (2010-13), recording 73 punt returns for 819 yards (11.2 ypr) and two touchdowns, 92 kickoff returns for 2,278 yards (24.8 ypr) and a touchdown and five receptions for 24 yards (4.8 ypr). He earned a Pro Bowl nod after the 2010 season as a return specialist.
11/20/14 - WR/KR Marc Mariani continued to take kick/punt return reps in practice and it appears he'll return at least some of the time Sunday, although head coach Marc Trestman is hedging on whether he'll get all of them. Regular return man Chris Williams remains out with a hamstring injury suffered Sunday.
