Draft Scout Andre Roberts News
12/28/16 - RB Theo Riddick (wrist) and KR/PR Andre Roberts (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday. Riddick is in danger of missing his fourth straight game, while Roberts finished Monday night's loss to the Dallas Cowboys after he was banged up in the first half. TJ Jones likely would handle punt returns and Asa Jackson could handle kick returns if Roberts does not play.
11/21/16 - PR Andre Roberts didn't want to put too much pressure on himself after committing a fumble deep in his own territory. He pushed the mistake to the back of his mind, then pulled his team out of its doldrums. Roberts scored on a 55-yard return in the first half of the Lions' 26-19 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.
Roberts contributed another long gain as a wide receiver, catching a 44-yard pass from QB Matthew Stafford.
11/16/16 - WR Andre Roberts hasn't gotten much publicity as the Lions' No. 4 receiver, but he's made a number of important contributions this year. In nine games, Roberts has just six catches for 76 yards. But he made a leaping catch to prevent an interception on the Lions' game-winning touchdown drive against Washington, he made a fourth-down touchdown catch in a win over the Los Angeles Rams, and he's quietly been one of the most productive punt returners in the NFL this year with a 13.4-yard average and one touchdown.
11/09/16 - -KR/PR Andre Roberts has had mixed results has a return man for the Lions this year. Roberts leads all NFL players with 20 kick returns, but he's averaging just 21.6 yards per return (14th best in the league). As a punt returner, Roberts doesn't quite have enough returns to qualify (11) among the league leaders. But if he did, his 13.4-yard average would rank fifth in the NFL.
10/24/16 - WR Andre Roberts doesn't play much as the Lions' fourth receiver, but seven games into the season, he's shown a knack for making the most of the playing time he gets.
Roberts jumped high to make a 20-yard catch on the Lions' game-winning drive Sunday on a pass that Matthew Stafford initially thought was going to be intercepted.
Roberts, who stands just 5-feet-11, caught his first touchdown pass of the season on a fourth-and-goal play last week, and earlier this year he returned a punt 84 yards for a touchdown.
"He's an integral part of what we do," Caldwell said. "You can see that we're lining up in four wides maybe a little bit more than we've done previously and that's because of the fact that we think he's certainly capable, and he's been able to come along and he returns punts and kicks for us as well. Very important role that he plays."
