 Draft Scout T.J. Barnes News
08/31/13 - DT T.J. Barnes was released on Saturday as the Jacksonville Jaguars got down to the league-mandated 53-player roster to start the season.
04/29/13 - Jaguars agree to terms with 23 Rookie Free Agents: The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with 23 rookie free agents. These 23 players are expected to join the Jaguars’ eight drafted players and others for rookie mini-camp beginning Friday, May 3. DT T.J. Barnes, Georgia Tech. - Jaguars.com
03/24/13 - 2013 Georgia Tech Pro Day: Georgia Tech had its pro day on Thursday. It was attended by representatives of 28 NFL teams, including the defensive backs coach from the Miami Dolphins. Five Georgia Tech players participated. The workout was held indoors on FieldTurf. T.J. Barnes, DL (6-foot-6, 364 lbs) - Barnes worked out and did a little bit better than he did in Indianapolis. He’s got good feet, but he needs to get his weight down. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com
03/05/13 - Former Georgia Tech defensive tackle T.J. Barnes is letting the secret out just in time for Tech’s pro day March 14 – he wants to sling the rock. Playing on the Yellow Jackets' defensive line, Barnes said Sunday, he played in a variety of spots – lined up directly over the center (known as zero technique) or shaded between the tackle and guard (three technique). Said Barnes, “I could see myself at end, but the ideal position I see myself is QB.” Alas, NFL decision makers will likely not go outside the box with Barnes on draft day. The fact that he has never played quarterback before doesn’t help his cause. “If I put effort into this, I could be the next Tom Brady, Peyton Manning,” Barnes said. Unfortunately, Barnes was only joking. He did offer reports and insight from his NFL combine experience more grounded in reality. Forthwith.

Barnes said he actually felt slow when he ran his 5.22 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He said he had been running faster at his pre-combine training in Boca Raton, Fla. But he said he won’t run it again at the pro day, satisfied with his time. “I think I impressed a lot of people, so I don’t think I’m going to run again,” he said.

Barnes said he was hoping to get 30 bench-press reps of 225 pounds, but finished with 25. Had he hit 30, he would have been top five among all defensive linemen in Indianapolis. He tied for 22nd. Barnes said he’ll do positional drills and may try for better scores on the vertical jump (22.0 inches, 38th out of 38) and broad jump (97 inches, 36th out of 37). - Ken Sugiura, The Atlanta Journal Constitution

12/12/12 - 2012 COACHES ALL-ACC FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION: DT-T.J. Barnes, Sr.-R, Georgia Tech (2), has been selected Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference (Coaches selection) for the 2012 college football season. This year, for the first time under the auspices of the ACC, the league's 12 head football coaches voted for an All-ACC football team. - Georgia Tech football
