Draft Scout *Da''Quan Bowers News
09/05/15 - DT Da'Quan Bowers had his contract terminated by the Buccaneers Friday (Sept. 4).
07/29/15 - DE Da'Quan Bowers, who wasn't tendered as an unrestricted free agent by the Buccaneers on May 12,w as re-signed by the team Tuesday (July 28).
03/08/15 - DT Da'Quan Bowers, unrestricted FA update, has been a bust. Bowers came to the Bucs with a knee injury and was put on a pitch count of sorts his rookie year. But the Bucs felt so strongly about him, they let DE Michael Bennett go via free agent for a one-year, $5 million deal with Seattle. In four seasons, Bowers produced only seven sacks.
12/24/14 - DT Da'Quan Bowers has another important audition Sunday against the Saints. With Gerald McCoy on injured reserve, Bowers has seen his reps increase to about 50 plays per game. The former second-round pick from Clemson has been a bust with the Bucs and is likely playing his last game for the team as he becomes a free agent in 2015.
How has Bowers played lately?
"Okay," coach Lovie Smith said. "He's gotten more reps the last couple of weeks. When I talk about how important this game is for some players, a guy like Da'Quan, he needs to leave his mark. He's been around here awhile, shown flashes - guys that flash, now they need to put it together and when you know, 'this is my last opportunity right now,' you should get the best. He's definitely in that group of guys who need to step up this week.
12/17/14 - DT Da'Quan Bowers will see more playing time inside with the injury to Gerald McCoy. He played more than 50 snaps last week but Smith says he's still not in shape.
"He's making a case to get more playing time and he got more – a couple of weeks ago, he got about 20 plays; last week, I think he got more like 50," Smith said. "He needs to get in better shape, of course, to be able to handle that type of load. I think for just defensive linemen in general, it's always about how many reps – ‘I need more reps to show what I can do.' He's getting those. As far as starting lineups, if you make a case that you should be on the field at the start of the game based on your play, then you'll get that opportunity. We've seen things we've liked from him. Just overall play isn't what it needs to be yet."
