Draft Scout Carter Bykowski News
09/13/16 - OT Carter Bykowski has been released from the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad on Tuesday. The Vikings, in turn, signed cornerbacks Tre Roberson and Julian Wilson to the practice squad. The signings come after starting cornerback Xavier Rhodes suffered a knee injury while stretching prior to last Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. His status for this Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers is still to be determined.
09/02/15 - T Carter Bykowski was waived/injured by the Vikings Monday (Aug. 31) and was placed on reserve/injured after clearing waivers Tuesday.
08/20/15 - T Carter Bykowski, who was in the mix as the third tackle, is out for the season after having surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. The Vikings are consulting multiple medical experts to see if there is a common denominator in five players having suffered pectoral injuries the past 11 months. Tackle Phil Loadholt and guard Brandon Fusco suffered season-ending pectoral injuries last season. Defensive end Brian Robison suffered one working out in the offseason, but returned in time for training camp. Cornerback Josh Robinson suffered one in an offseason practice and remains on the physically unable to perform list.
12/10/14 - To say Carter Bykowski considers himself a good fit for the Vikings is an understatement.
The offensive tackle signed off the 49ers' practice squad this week grew up five miles from Vikings headquarters. He won two state titles at Eden Prairie High School. He played under Bud Grant's son, Mike, a legendary high school coach in the state. And he's close friends with Bud's grandson Ryan.
"I was like, 'Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go home,'" the 6-7, 306-pound offensive tackle said Wednesday before his first practice.
Bykowski, a seventh-round draft pick of the 49ers a year ago, might even bump into Bud Grant at some point. Grant still spends a lot of time at team headquarters.
"He might not recognize me or remember me; I was 240 pounds back then," said Bykowski, who played tight end for two and a half years at Iowa State before switching to tackle.
09/01/13 - T Carter Bykowski was waived by the 49ers Saturday.
