 Draft Scout Nick Florence News
02/07/13 - Despite a record-setting senior season, Baylor quarterback Nick Florence said he won’t pursue an NFL career. Florence will focus on finishing his MBA instead of preparing for the April NFL draft. “I’ve decided to hang up my cleats and finish my master’s in December,” Florence said. “My wife and I have spent the last 1 1/2 months talking about it, and it all came down to what we wanted in life, and it didn’t include playing football.”

Stepping in for 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, Florence produced a superb senior season as he passed for a school-record 4,309 yards and 33 touchdowns while rushing for 568 yards and 10 scores. He ranked second nationally in total offense with 375.1 yards per game as he led the Bears to an 8-5 record that was capped by a 49-26 win over UCLA in the Holiday Bowl. He had planned to play in last weekend’s Texas vs. the Nation college all-star game in Allen, but pulled out due to an ankle injury.

“Oh yeah, I’m going to miss it,” Florence said. “I’ve been doing it my whole life. I don’t know whether I would have been drafted, but I have no doubt that I could have made a team. But I’ll look back and have a lot of great memories.” - John Werner, The Waco Tribune-Herald

12/28/12 - It didn't take long for Baylor's high-octane offense to hit high gear against UCLA. In one half, the Bears provided enough juice to throttle the Bruins. By the time many of the 55,507 who witnessed the Bears' victory were heading for the exits, Baylor players and coached basked in their 49-26 rout in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium on Thursday night. "The running game was huge," said Baylor senior quarterback Nick Florence, who also came up big by completing 10 of 13 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. He ran for another score.

Florence broke Robert Griffin III's single-season school record for passing yards during the game, finishing with 4,309 yards. "I just happened to followed the Heisman Trophy winner, so for me, I just had to go out and be me," Florence said. "I'm not Robert, I'm not 6-3 and I don't run a 4.3. I just had to be me."

Baylor's offensive line cleared holes for running backs Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin. Seastrunk, voted the bowl's offensive MVP, ran for a game-high 138 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, while Martin added three touchdowns and 98 yards on 21 carries. "Best O-line in America," Florence said, "and we've got the best backs in America. They've done a heck of job running the ball." - The Sports Xchange

12/27/12 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Senior QB Nick Florence had the unenviable task of replacing 2011 Heisman winner Robert Griffin III, and what did he do? Simply have the second-most productive passing career in Baylor history with 6,113 yards, behind only the 10,368 yards Griffin compiled. Florence passed for 4,121 yards this season and provided an unexpected bonus with 531 yards rushing.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We wish things had been going this way at the beginning of the year, but you can't change the past. Honestly, I am grateful that things turned out the way it has." Senior QB Nick Florence, on Baylor's closing rush to 7-5 after a 4-5 start to the season - The Sports Xchange

12/09/12 - 2012 ALL-BIG 12 HONORABLE MENTION (MEDIA): Quarterback: Nick Florence, Baylor, has been selected Honorable Mention All-Big 12 Conference (Media selection) for the 2012 college football season. Florence leads the nation with an average of 387.7 yards per game of total offense. He's completed 276 of 451 passes for 4,121 yards and 31 touchdowns. Florence needs only 174 passing yards in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl to break Griffin III's school record for passing yards in a single season, and his 31 touchdowns are second-most in a season in school history, six shy of RG3's record. - Baylor football
