Draft Scout *Blaine Gabbert News
11/20/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert completed 22-of-34 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Gabbert did toss a pair of interceptions.
"Blaine played his ass off," Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said. "He probably had over a 100 quarterback rating until the end of the game. We didn't make any plays for him. We dropped way too many balls."
11/17/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert will start over injured Drew Stanton for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Friday. Arians told reporters that Stanton, who has a sprained knee, will be Gabbert's backup if he can physically play. This will be Gabbert's first start since Week 5 last season for the San Francisco 49ers -- a 33-21 loss against the Cardinals on Oct. 6, 2016. The 28-year-old Gabbert completed 56.9 percent of his passes for 925 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions in six games last season.
10/23/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert will be the backup quarterback to new starter Drew Stanton, head coach Bruce Arians reaffirmed on Monday. "I saw a really good athlete that has a tremendous arm," Arians said Monday when asked what he liked about Gabbert during training camp and the preseason. "It's just a matter of continuing to learn this system. But his physical attributes made us go, 'Hey, this guy has a chance. We're going to go with three quarterbacks this year and continue to try to get him taught.' Now, he's got to be more than ready to go."
08/29/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert will start Thursday's game at Denver and will play about 15 or snaps. Undrafted rookie free agent Trevor Knight will play the rest of the way.
Coach Bruce Arians on his assessment of Gabbert based on a short-term and long-term evaluation.
"Short term, it's been amazing how he could grasp this much information and go play with it fast," Arians said. "We've kept it to where he could play fast in games; in practices it's a little slower in that you're throwing everything at him. But I've been very pleased with him. Short term, I'd be very comfortable if he had to play for us.
"Long term, if he continues at his rate, he could be a starter."
Can he be a successful starter?
"Oh, I don't think there's any doubt, yeah," Arians said.
08/21/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert has completed 30 of 48 passes for 412 yards (62.5 percent) with one touchdown and one interception.
Signed to a one-year deal, the Cardinals are curious to learn if Gabbert might be the bridge to eventually replacing Carson Palmer as the team's starting quarterback. "When you watch Blaine the way he's played this preseason, he could potentially be competing for some other team's starting position," Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "Again, that's just my opinion. He's played well. He's played within the system. He's made big throws. He's been able to show people how his athleticism and his feet can get him out of trouble in the pocket because be really does have good wheels."
