Draft Scout *Blaine Gabbert News
08/29/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert will start Thursday's game at Denver and will play about 15 or snaps. Undrafted rookie free agent Trevor Knight will play the rest of the way.
Coach Bruce Arians on his assessment of Gabbert based on a short-term and long-term evaluation.
"Short term, it's been amazing how he could grasp this much information and go play with it fast," Arians said. "We've kept it to where he could play fast in games; in practices it's a little slower in that you're throwing everything at him. But I've been very pleased with him. Short term, I'd be very comfortable if he had to play for us.
"Long term, if he continues at his rate, he could be a starter."
Can he be a successful starter?
"Oh, I don't think there's any doubt, yeah," Arians said.
08/21/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert has completed 30 of 48 passes for 412 yards (62.5 percent) with one touchdown and one interception.
Signed to a one-year deal, the Cardinals are curious to learn if Gabbert might be the bridge to eventually replacing Carson Palmer as the team's starting quarterback. "When you watch Blaine the way he's played this preseason, he could potentially be competing for some other team's starting position," Cardinals general manager Steve Keim told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "Again, that's just my opinion. He's played well. He's played within the system. He's made big throws. He's been able to show people how his athleticism and his feet can get him out of trouble in the pocket because be really does have good wheels."
08/07/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert played extremely well in the Hall of Fame Game, completing 11 of 14 passes for 185 yards with no interceptions. He didn't do enough yet, however, to make head coach Bruce Arians believe he can move ahead of second-stringer Drew Stanton.
"There's a chance, but there's a long way to go," Arians said. "Drew just knows the offense so well."

05/11/17 - QB Blaine Gabbert, 27, is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Cardinals after spending the past three seasons with the 49ers.
A former No. 10 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, Gabbert started 13 games during his stay in San Francisco. He completed 56.9 percent of his passes for 15 touchdowns, 13 interceptions and 2,958 yards but won just four games. Gabbert began last season as the 49ers' starter but was benched in favor of Colin Kaepernick.
