Draft Scout Ladarius Green News
08/31/16 - TE Ladarius Green was placed on the regular-season physically unable to perform list. He is not eligible to practice or play until after the sixth week of the regular season. Green, who signed a four-year, $20 million free agent contract in March, has been dealing with headaches. He has yet to practice with the Steelers.
08/11/16 - TE Ladarius Green remains on the PUP list after offseason ankle surgery and will not play in the first preseason game against the Lions Friday night. Green hasn't participated on the field in any way since the Steelers signed him as a free agent in March.
07/30/16 - TE Ladarius Green opened camp on the PUP list. Green, who had offseason ankle surgery, also sat out OTAs and minicamp.
Green was signed to replace Heath Miller as the starting tight end, but all he has been able to do since joining the team is attend meetings and watch practice.
Head coach Mike Tomlin said Thursday he anticipated Green's injury would linger into the summer and gave no timetable for his return.
Practices this summer were viewed as vital for Green because he is new to the offense after playing his first four seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was looking forward to working with his new tight end in the spring, and now he's going to have to wait a little longer.
It's an unfortunate situation for the Steelers' offense. Roethlisberger is already trying to deal with the loss of receiver Martavis Bryant and can use all the time he can get with his new tight end.
"Sometimes that cohesion happens quickly in some relationships," Tomlin said. "Sometimes it takes an extended period of time. I don't know what it's going to be for those two. Ladarius has been very attentive in the mental aspect of the game throughout the spring and summer.
"Hopefully, that aids him in that development. He's done a good job of interacting in an informal manner, but there's no substitute for playing and getting a feel for one another. We're just not able to do that at this point."
06/16/16 - TE Ladarius Green, the Steelers' biggest free agent acquisition of the offseason, did not practice during OTAs or minicamp because of offseason ankle surgery. In March, he said he would be ready to practice at the beginning of training camp, but that could be in jeopardy now. "I don't know," Green said, when asked if he'd be ready for the start of camp. "I'm just taking it day-by-day now. I'm hoping I will be. It's looking good. The rehab is going good. I'm hoping for the best."
05/26/16 - TE Ladarius Green was signed by Pittsburgh to replace Heath Miller as the starting tight end, but Green is a spectator this spring as he rehabilitates from offseason ankle surgery. Green expects to be ready for training camp at the end of July, but he won't get much of a chance to work with his new teammates during OTAs and minicamp.
That's the hard part," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "I just know kind of the things I've heard and seen with him and the Chargers. I'm excited to have him out here, just not sure when that's going to be. We spent some time talking behind the scenes a little bit, behind practice. So, I hope mentally he'll be ready to go, when he's physically ready."
